Elcometer 331 Cover Meter B
Cover Meters
A cover meter is an essential tool to locate rebars and measure the exact concrete cover in various construction and engineering applications. The main function of a cover meter is to measure the distance between the surface of the concrete and the rebar, giving accurate cover readings. This accuracy is critical for concrete structures to prevent rebar damage and reduce corrosion.
The thickness of the concrete cover is critical to avoid rebar damage during construction activities. By using a cover meter, you can determine the orientation and location of rebars and change the construction process to avoid damage. The ergonomic design of cover meters including weight and dimensions makes it easy to handle and use in any environment.
A typical cover meter consists of a probe, a gauge and a display unit which work together to give accurate readings. The method used by a cover meter is based on the eddy current principle which uses magnetic fields to detect and measure. This technology allows construction professionals to accurately locate and measure the concrete cover and ensure safety and durability of concrete structures. For those looking to purchase, consider the Proceq Profometer Cover Meter Conversion Kit for comprehensive concrete corrosion testing solutions.
Elcometer 331 Cover Meter B with Rebar Diameter Measurement
Easy to use menus. Interchangeable lithium-ion batteries give up to 32 hours of continuous use and are rechargeable. Rugged waterproof ABS plastic case meets IP 65. Bar size ranges are selectable between USA (Imperial), metric, ASTM/Canadian and Japanese. Comes with battery pack and charger, shoulder harness and manual. AC charger is 115V/60HZ or 230V/50HZ and will adapt to most other power supplies and outlets.
Search Heads are interchangeable and required for use with Elcometer Cover Meters. Standard Search Head detects larger bars, Narrow Pitch and Deep Search Heads detect better resolution or wider range. Additional search heads and probes, extension arm, spare battery pack and calibration test block for both Covermeter models are available separately.
RL-101 Elcometer Cover Meter B is a basic meter for rebar location, orientation and depth. This unit is similar to more advanced but has no memory, bar-sizing or download capabilities. RLA-8 Standard Search Head included. Additional heads and other accessories available.
RL-102A Elcometer Cover Meter SH locates rebar location, orientation and depth. Additional features include memory for 10 batches of 1,000 readings each and auto and manual bar sizing. This model can take Half-Cell Probes for rebar corrosion potential; probes are interchangeable with Search Heads. Audible low alert and Maxpip™ tone for increased accuracy in location is standard on this model. RL-102A has RS 232 output and comes with Covermaster™ software for data downloading, analysis and report generation and PC/Printer cable. Search heads are not included with the Cover Meter SH and are purchased separately. This model also measures bar diameter and gives precise diameter values. It can also visualize live wires within concrete.
Advanced visualization tools in Covermaster™ software include heat maps and rebars to help with data interpretation and structural assessments. Users can access advanced features and data storage through the software, enhancing their ability to analyze and report on crucial data.

Steel Reinforcement Bars
Steel reinforcement bars are critical in construction projects where the presence of rebars can affect the strength and durability of concrete structures. Using rebar spacer wheels can help ensure precise alignment and spacing for enhanced efficiency. Rebar locators and cover meters are essential tools to detect steel reinforcement bars, get diameter values and location information.
Rebar detectors use a magnetic field to detect metallic objects like rebars and can accommodate various sizes and types of rebars. They are useful for quick rebar location especially in dark areas where visibility is limited. But for more accurate concrete cover measurement, cover meters are preferred. They use pulse-induction method to detect the distance between the concrete surface and the rebar, get precise cover values.
Cover meters are instruments to locate and measure the concrete cover of steel reinforcement bars (rebars) in concrete structures. They are a critical tool to ensure the structural integrity and safety of buildings, bridges and other infrastructure. By measuring the concrete cover accurately, cover meters prevent rebar damage, reduce corrosion risk and ensure compliance with building codes and regulations. Modern cover meters can visualize critical elements like dowels within concrete structures. With technology advancing, modern cover meters now have 2D imaging, heat maps and data analytics, making them an essential tool for construction professionals. These advanced capabilities also include detecting various structural elements such as any metallic object, enhancing measurement accuracy and reporting. Cover meters can detect and visualize metallic items, including rebars, dowels, live wires and any other object within concrete structures.
