AutoRice™ Digital Manometer/Controller
The AutoRice™ Digital Manometer/Controller is a cutting-edge device designed to precisely measure and regulate vacuum pressure and time, making it an essential tool for asphalt testing laboratories. It can also be equipped with an optional Shaker Sensor to monitor vibration energy during theoretical maximum specific gravity testing (Rice Test) of hot-mix asphalt samples.
Why Precise Control Matters
Careful control of vacuum pressure, time, and shaker vibration energy can lead to dramatic improvements in inter-laboratory repeatability and accuracy. Variations in acceleration and frequency energy produced by rice shakers can create repeatability issues and even cause stripping of the sample. Until now, actual shaker energy profiles have not been monitored, but with the AutoRice™ Controller, accurate measurements help establish parameters for adjusting settings between different shakers.
How It Works
With the push of a button, the AutoRice™ Controller:
- Starts the vacuum pump
- Regulates vacuum pressure
- Controls vacuum time
- Displays vacuum pressure in real time
The optional Shaker Sensor, purchased separately, attaches to the pycnometer and connects to the controller's USB port to measure vibration acceleration and frequency. Data from the sensor can then be used to calculate a "shaker factor" to establish proper vibration levels.
Easy Setup and Data Management
The Controller features intuitive menu-driven software, making it easy to set up and replacing traditional analog or digital manometers. Sample weights can be entered directly into the system, which then automatically calculates maximum specific gravity results. Test data from each cycle can be downloaded to a PC via the USB port for review, ensuring adherence to test specifications. Documented test data can also be stored, shared, or emailed for streamlined record-keeping.
Versatility and Compatibility
The AutoRice™ Controller and Shaker Sensor are compatible with glass, metal, or plastic pycnometers, and work seamlessly with Rice Shakers. Its compact design allows for convenient benchtop placement or easy wall-mounting. Additionally, the SG-35 automates the saturation process for AASHTO T 283 Moisture-Induced Damage specimens.
