Zeitfuchs® Cross-Arm Viscometers: Precision Kinematic Viscosity Measurement

The Zeitfuchs Cross-Arm Viscometer is an essential tool for accurately determining the kinematic viscosity of Newtonian liquids like bitumen, road oils, and asphalt cements. Specifically designed for testing under controlled temperature conditions, it measures bitumen and road oils at 140°F (60°C) and asphalt cements at 275°F (135°C), in strict compliance with ASTM D2170/2170M standards.

Each viscometer is calibrated and guaranteed to provide measurements with a precision of ±0.2% across its stated viscosity range. Models are available to cover an extensive range of viscosities, from as low as 0.6 to as high as 100,000 centistokes (cSt), ensuring the right instrument is available for your specific application.

A key design advantage is the small sample volume requirement, needing only 1 to 3mL of liquid. This efficiency minimizes product waste and allows for rapid thermal equilibrium. The viscometer can be conveniently filled and cleaned while remaining immersed in a constant temperature bath, streamlining the testing workflow. For proper operation, a minimum immersion depth of 9in (230mm) into the bath is required.

Every unit is delivered with a Certificate of Calibration, providing traceability and assurance of accuracy from the moment it arrives. A compatible 2in (51mm) diameter holder is necessary for secure placement in the viscosity bath and must be purchased separately.
