The Zeitfuchs Cross-Arm Viscometer is a precision instrument designed to measure the kinematic viscosity of liquid asphalt (bitumen), road oils, and asphalt cements. It operates in full compliance with ASTM D445, D446, D2170/2170M, and AASHTO T 201 standards, making it an essential tool for quality control in asphalt and bitumen testing.

This viscometer accurately measures kinematic viscosity at 140°F (60°C) for liquid asphalt and road oils, and at 275°F (135°C) for asphalt cements. The Size 2 model covers a viscosity range of 2–10 centistokes (cSt), with an approximate constant of 0.01 cSt/s, and delivers a high level of precision at ±0.2% within its stated range.

Efficient Design for Streamlined Testing

One of the standout features of the Zeitfuchs Cross-Arm Viscometer is its cross-arm design, which allows users to fill, test, and clean the viscometer without removing it from the Constant Temperature Viscosity Bath. This significantly reduces downtime between tests and improves overall workflow efficiency. Only 1–3mL of sample is required per test, minimizing material waste and making it ideal for situations where sample availability is limited.

For proper operation, a minimum bath immersion depth of 9in (230mm) is required to ensure accurate and consistent temperature control throughout the testing process.
