Type T Thermocouple with Ungrounded Junction | 3/16" OD, 18" Length, Male Plug Connector

Versatile and Reliable Temperature Measurement for Industrial Applications

Thermocouples are among the most versatile and widely-used devices for temperature measurement across various industrial, scientific, and commercial sectors. They offer a reliable method for converting heat into a measurable electrical signal, which can then be used as a direct input for process controllers, data loggers, and recorders.

How Do Thermocouples Work?

A thermocouple operates on the principle of the Seebeck effect. It consists of two wires made from different metals, joined together at one end to form a "hot" or measuring junction. The opposite end is the "cold" or reference junction. When the measuring junction is exposed to heat, a temperature gradient is created along the wires, which generates a small thermoelectric voltage, or Electromotive Force (EMF).

This voltage is directly proportional to the temperature difference between the hot and cold junctions. By measuring this EMF and applying a standardized calibration, the temperature at the measuring point can be accurately determined. The specific combination of metals used determines the thermocouple's type (e.g., Type J, K, T, E) and its effective temperature range. By selecting the appropriate thermocouple wires and protective sheath materials, these sensors can be engineered to measure extreme temperatures, from as low as -200 °C (-328 °F) up to 2316 °C (4200 °F).

About this Specific Thermocouple:

  • Type T: Constructed from Copper and Constantan wires, Type T thermocouples are known for their high accuracy and stability, especially in low-temperature applications like cryogenics and food processing.
  • Ungr. (Ungrounded) Junction: The thermocouple junction is electrically isolated from the outer protective sheath. This design helps minimize electrical noise and interference from the surrounding environment, leading to a more stable and accurate reading.
  • 3/16" OD x 18" Length: The robust metal sheath with a 3/16-inch outer diameter (OD) provides durability, while the 18-inch length allows for effective immersion into the process being measured.
