Thermocouple, Type K, Ungrounded Junction, 3/16in OD, 24in, Male Plug
Thermocouples are the most widely used, reliable, and versatile devices for temperature measurement across industrial and commercial applications. They are valued for their simplicity, durability, and ability to measure a wide range of temperatures accurately.
How Thermocouples Work:
Thermocouples operate by converting heat into measurable engineering units that serve as input signals for process controllers, recorders, or monitoring systems. They consist of two dissimilar metal wires joined at a welded 'hot' junction, with a reference junction located at the opposite end. When the 'hot' junction is exposed to a temperature, a temperature gradient is created, generating an Electromotive Force (EMF). This EMF, measured at the wire ends, is directly proportional to the temperature difference and is converted into calibrated heat units for precise measurement.
Type K Thermocouples:
Type K thermocouples, made from chromel and alumel, are among the most commonly used types due to their durability, wide temperature range, and ability to perform in harsh environments. They are suitable for temperatures ranging from -200°C to 1,260°C (-328°F to 2,300°F) and are ideal for use in oxidizing or neutral atmospheres. The ungrounded junction design ensures electrical isolation, minimizing noise and interference in sensitive applications.
Applications:
These thermocouples are versatile and can be used in various industries, including:
- Aerospace: Monitoring engine temperatures and testing components.
- Automotive: Exhaust gas temperature measurement and engine testing.
- Manufacturing: Kilns, furnaces, and heat-treating processes.
- Food & Beverage: Temperature monitoring of food production and storage.
- Oil & Gas: High-pressure and high-temperature environments, including refineries and pipelines.
Enhanced Durability:
By carefully selecting thermocouple wires and sheath materials, these devices can endure extreme conditions, including exposure to high temperatures, corrosive environments, and vibration. With appropriate configurations, thermocouples can measure temperatures as low as -200°C (-328°F) and as high as 2,316°C (4,200°F). This makes them suitable for both cryogenic and high-temperature industrial processes.
Pyromation Thermocouples:
Pyromation manufactures a broad range of thermocouples, including MgO (Magnesium Oxide) insulated, industrial, and general-purpose designs. We also offer thermocouple assemblies tailored to specific needs, such as hazardous locations, high-pressure environments, and applications requiring protection tubes, thermowells, connection heads, or transmitters. Each thermocouple is crafted to meet rigorous standards, ensuring accuracy, durability, and reliability.
Whether you're in need of a standard thermocouple or a custom assembly built to handle the most challenging conditions, Pyromation provides innovative solutions to meet your temperature measurement demands.
