The Gilson Marshall Compactor is a mechanical, stationary compactor designed to prepare hot mix asphalt specimens for Marshall stability and flow, specific gravity, and void content testing. Utilizing a 4in stationary mold and delivering 64 blows per minute (BPM), this compactor combines durability and efficiency with enhanced safety features for consistent, secure operation that produces accurate and reliable Marshall test specimens.
Design and Construction The mechanical compactor features a stationary base and is available in 55 or 64 BPM versions to compact 4in (101.6mm) diameter test specimens with a 10lb (4.6kg) flat-faced hammer. The compactor is fully enclosed and incorporates heavy-duty construction with a 3/4hp electric motor that lifts the hammer to the precise height for each blow. The machine is built to withstand the rigors of daily use in a laboratory environment, ensuring long-lasting performance and reliability.
Controller and Display The user-programmable electronic controller allows operators to set blows between 1 and 999, providing flexibility for a wide range of testing requirements. Real-time displays show both the current blow count and BPM, allowing operators to monitor the compaction process at a glance. For enhanced efficiency, the controller automatically stops the hammer when the compaction process is complete, allowing the mold to be inverted for compaction on the opposite side and ensuring the same number of blows is applied for uniform specimen preparation.
Safety Features The Gilson Marshall Compactor is designed with operator safety in mind. The fully enclosed design minimizes exposure to moving parts, while a safety interlock system prevents the compactor from operating unless the door is securely closed and latched, reducing the risk of injury. An emergency stop (E-Stop) button instantly cuts power in case of emergency, providing an extra layer of operator protection.
