100psf Basic Swell Consolidometer, 2.5in Diameter

Self-contained Basic Swell Consolidometers are designed for conducting swell and expansion tests on soil specimens with diameters of 2.44in (62mm) or 2.50in (63.5mm). This straightforward method delivers rapid results to assess soil swell potential without requiring an external loading frame.

Soil specimens are compacted into a stainless steel Compaction Ring and placed in the Consolidometer between two porous stones. The assembly is then loaded to 60 or 100psf (2.87 or 4.7kPa) using the provided Loading Weight. A dial indicator is used to record the initial sample height, and the Consolidometer is filled with water to begin the test process.

Key features include the ability to test 2.5in (63.5mm) diameter soil samples with a load capacity of 100psf (4.7kPa). The compact, all-in-one design includes a stainless steel base, Compaction Specimen Ring, Loading Weight, Porous Stones, an acrylic water containment ring, and an adjustable dial indicator holder. Replacement Porous Stones and Loading Weights are also available.

Dial indicators and additional stainless steel Compaction Rings can be purchased separately to enhance sample preparation. The Permeability Compaction Hammer, also sold separately, compacts soil into the Compaction Ring using 100g (0.22lb) or 1kg (2.2lb) sliding weights, with an adjustable drop height of 4 to 8in (102 to 203mm). The hammer includes a 2in (51mm) tamping foot and requires a Compaction Base and Collar for each specimen size.
