Product Overview This Type K thermocouple is a versatile and robust temperature sensing device designed for a wide array of industrial and commercial applications. Thermocouples are the industry standard for temperature measurement due to their convenience, reliability, and broad operational range. They function by converting thermal energy into a readable electrical signal, providing essential data for process controllers, recorders, and monitoring systems.
Principle of Operation A thermocouple operates based on the Seebeck effect. It consists of two wires made from dissimilar metals, which are welded together at one end to form a "hot" junction. When this junction is exposed to heat, a temperature gradient is created along the wires, generating a small voltage or Electromotive Force (EMF). This EMF is measured at the opposite end (the "cold" or reference junction) and precisely converted into a temperature reading.
By carefully selecting specific wire alloys and protective sheathing materials, thermocouples can be engineered to measure an extremely wide temperature range, from cryogenic levels (-200 °C / -328 °F) up to extreme heat (2316 °C / 4200 °F).
