Type J Thermocouple with 1/8" OD, 9" Length, and 1/2" NPT Stainless Steel Hex Nipple
This Type J Thermocouple is an essential tool for precise temperature measurement in a vast range of industrial and commercial settings. Thermocouples are renowned as one of the most versatile and reliable devices for monitoring and controlling temperature, converting heat energy into a measurable electrical signal.
How Thermocouples Work
A thermocouple operates on the principle of the Seebeck effect. It consists of two wires made from different metals, which are joined together at one end to form a measuring junction (the "hot" junction). The other end is the reference junction. When the measuring junction is exposed to a temperature change, a voltage, or Electromotive Force (EMF), is generated. This EMF is proportional to the temperature difference between the two junctions. This signal is then read by a controller or recorder and translated into a precise temperature reading.
By carefully selecting specific metal alloys and protective sheath materials, thermocouples can be engineered to function across an exceptionally wide temperature spectrum, from cryogenic lows of -200°C (-328°F) to extreme highs of 2316°C (4200°F).
About Type J Thermocouples
The Type J thermocouple, made from an Iron and Constantan junction, is one of the most widely used types due to its reliability and cost-effectiveness. It is particularly well-suited for applications in non-oxidizing or inert environments.
Key Features and Specifications:
- Temperature Range: This specific model is rated for a temperature range of 0°C to 760°C (32°F to 1400°F), making it ideal for processes such as plastics and rubber manufacturing, heat treating, and various other industrial heating applications.
- Durable Construction: Built for industrial environments, it features a robust 316 Stainless Steel (SS) process connection, ensuring excellent resistance to corrosion and high temperatures.
- Process Connection: Equipped with a standard 1/2" NPT threaded hex nipple for secure and straightforward installation into pipes, tanks, and machinery.
- Conduit Opening: A 3/4" NPT opening allows for easy connection to standard electrical conduits, protecting the wiring from environmental hazards and mechanical damage.
Applications
Pyromation designs and manufactures a comprehensive portfolio of thermocouples, including MgO (Magnesium Oxide) insulated, industrial-grade, and general-purpose models. We also specialize in assemblies for hazardous locations and applications requiring connection heads, protective thermowells, and integrated transmitters to meet the unique demands of any process.
