How Thermocouples Work
Thermocouples operate on the Seebeck effect. They consist of two different types of metal wires joined together at one end, known as the "hot" or measuring junction. When this junction is exposed to heat, a temperature gradient is created, which generates a small thermoelectric voltage (Electromotive Force or EMF). This voltage is measured at the opposite "cold" or reference end and is directly proportional to the temperature. This allows for a reliable and repeatable temperature reading.
