Type J Thermocouple with Ungrounded Junction, 1/4" OD, 18" Length, and Male Plug
Product Overview Thermocouples are among the most common, versatile, and cost-effective devices for temperature measurement across a vast array of industrial, commercial, and scientific applications. They are designed to convert thermal energy (heat) into a measurable electrical signal, which can then be used as a direct input for process controllers, data loggers, and recorders.
How Thermocouples Work The fundamental principle behind a thermocouple is the Seebeck effect. It consists of two wires made from different metals, which are joined together at one end to form a measuring junction, often called the "hot" junction. The opposite end is the reference junction, which is kept at a known, stable temperature.
When the measuring junction is exposed to heat, a temperature gradient is created along the wires. This gradient generates a small voltage, or Electromotive Force (EMF), which is proportional to the temperature difference between the hot and reference junctions. This EMF is then measured at the free ends of the wires and converted into a precise temperature reading based on standardized thermocouple calibration tables.
By selecting specific thermocouple wire types and protective sheath materials, these sensors can be engineered to operate reliably across an exceptionally wide temperature range, from cryogenic conditions of -200°C (-328°F) up to extreme heats of 2316°C (4200°F).
Pyromation Thermocouple Solutions Pyromation is a leading manufacturer of high-quality thermocouples, offering a comprehensive product line and replacement parts for nearly every application on the market. Our offerings include:
- MgO (Magnesium Oxide) Insulated Thermocouples: Ideal for demanding industrial environments, offering excellent high-temperature performance, vibration resistance, and protection against moisture and contaminants.
- Industrial Assemblies: Heavy-duty thermocouples designed for rugged use, often incorporating connection heads, protection tubes, and thermowells for enhanced durability and serviceability.
- General-Purpose Thermocouples: Versatile and economical sensors suitable for a wide variety of less demanding applications.
- Hazardous Location Assemblies: Specially designed and certified thermocouple assemblies for use in environments where flammable gases, vapors, or dusts are present. These often include explosion-proof connection heads and other safety features.
- Integrated Transmitters: We can pair our thermocouple assemblies with temperature transmitters to convert the low-level EMF signal into a more robust and stable 4-20 mA or other standard process signal, improving noise immunity over long distances.
