Semi-Circular Bend (SCB) Test Fixture
The Semi-Circular Bend (SCB) Test Fixture is a specialized testing device designed for use with Marshall Stability Load Frames. Its primary purpose is to determine the low-temperature fracture energy and toughness of asphalt mixtures with a maximum aggregate size of 19mm. This crucial testing tool helps engineers and researchers assess the performance of asphalt mixtures in cold weather conditions, ensuring the longevity and durability of road surfaces.
The SCB Test Fixture is compatible with semicircular asphalt specimens that are easily cut from Superpave™ Gyratory compacted cylinders or field cores with a 150mm diameter. This makes specimen preparation straightforward and convenient, saving time and resources in the testing process.
The fixture itself is robustly constructed, featuring a 0.5in (12.7mm) thick steel base plate for stability, two L-shaped roller support steel blocks, two steel rollers for specimen support, and a U-shaped frame for secure mounting. It is designed to be mounted in a Marshall Load Frame, ensuring compatibility with standard laboratory equipment.
During testing, a specimen is positioned on the two rollers and loaded along its vertical diameter. Load and displacement are carefully measured to calculate test results. To ensure accuracy, Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) strips are used to minimize friction of the loading fixture, which could otherwise skew results.
