Type T Thermocouple with Ungrounded Junction and Mini Male Plug (1/8in Diameter, 12in Length)
What is a Thermocouple?
Thermocouples are among the most common, versatile, and cost-effective devices for measuring temperature across a vast range of industrial, scientific, and commercial applications. They function by converting heat energy into a measurable electrical signal, which can then be used as an input for process controllers, data loggers, and recorders.
How Do Thermocouples Work?
The operation of a thermocouple is based on the Seebeck effect. A thermocouple is constructed from two wires made of dissimilar metals, which are welded together at one end to form a "hot" junction (the measuring point). The other end, known as the "cold" or reference junction, is where the electrical signal is measured.
When the hot junction is exposed to a change in temperature, a temperature gradient is created along the wires. This gradient generates a small, predictable voltage, or Electromotive Force (EMF). This voltage is directly proportional to the temperature difference between the hot junction and the reference junction. By measuring this EMF, we can accurately determine the temperature at the hot junction.
Key Features and Suitability
By selecting specific combinations of thermocouple wires and protective sheath materials, thermocouples can be engineered to measure an extremely broad spectrum of temperatures, from cryogenic lows of -200°C (-328°F) up to extreme highs of 2316°C (4200°F).
About This Product: Type T Thermocouple
This specific model is a Type T thermocouple, constructed from copper and constantan wires. Type T is highly regarded for its stability and is often used in applications requiring high accuracy in lower temperature ranges, such as cryogenics, food processing, and laboratory environments. It performs exceptionally well in sub-zero and mildly oxidizing or reducing atmospheres.
- Junction: This model features an ungrounded (Ung.) junction, where the thermocouple wires are physically isolated from the protective outer metal sheath. This design offers excellent protection against electrical interference (noise) from surrounding equipment, making it ideal for applications where stray voltages could affect measurement accuracy.
- Probe: The probe has a 1/8-inch diameter and a 12-inch length, offering durability and sufficient reach for various installations.
- Connection: It terminates with a standard mini male plug for quick, easy, and reliable connection to instrumentation or extension cables.
