Proceq DY-2 Pull-Off Adhesion Testing Tester (3,597lbf)

Proceq Pull-Off Adhesion Testers give you accurate and repeatable results when testing bond, adhesion or tensile strength of coatings, overlays and substrate surfaces. These testes are an adhesion gauge, measuring the pull-off adhesion of coatings systems on various substrates. Fully automated, one touch operation after programming and test sample disc preparation is complete. Feedback controlled motors give a constant and verifiable load rate, eliminating operator influence on load measurements. Every test parameter is verifiable and recorded by the included DY-Link software. Compact size allows use in confined spaces and easy operation on walls and overhead surfaces. Applications: concrete repair and overlay bond and strength, pull-off and adhesion strength of coatings on concrete, concrete surface tensile strength, asphalt adhesive strength.

Programming is easy and can be done on a flat surface before use on walls and overhead. Simply select the units of measure, test disc size and load rate. To do the test, a specialized coring bit is used to core the substrate material to match the test disc size. A dolly cutter is used to prepare and score dollies, to get a precise score around the dolly for accurate adhesion testing. A standard epoxy based adhesive is used to attach the disc to the surface. The Pull-Off Tester is connected and applies perpendicular force until the test sample disc is pulled off and the maximum force is recorded. Total testing time is less than 100 seconds for all standards. Up to 80 tests can be done on a single battery charge. Internal memory can store up to 100 measurements.

The Pull-Off Testers start measuring as soon as any load is applied, using hydraulic pressure to measure the adhesion strength of coatings. Load rate can be seen in real-time when connected to a PC. The Testers give a complete record of the pull-off test, to prove that the test was done according to the standard. Recorded parameters are: time/date of test, test disc size, maximum load applied, bond strength calculation, load rate, test time, failure mode. Failure modes: failure in coating systems, between same coating systems and the layer and substrate, failure in substrate.

CT-140: 16kN (3,597lbf), most pull-off applications.

Test Disc required varies by material and application. The feet of the Pull-Off Testers are different for different Test Disc sizes. Smaller test discs use a tripod, larger test discs use a two leg configuration, and the CTA-56 Adapter Plate is required for 75mm and 100mm test discs. Proceq Test Discs require M10 Draw Bolt. M8 and M12 Draw Bolts are for use with Test Discs not supplied by Proceq.

Test discs, draw bolts and adapter plate available. Includes both models: carrying case, battery pack, battery charger with USB cable, 50mm aluminum test disc, M10 draw bolt, Torx screwdriver, DY-Link software, operating instructions, calibration certificate.

Adhesion Testing

Adhesion testing is the process of evaluating the bonding strength of coatings to different substrates. It involves measuring the force to pull a coating off a substrate, to get information about the coating’s adhesion properties. This is crucial to ensure the durability and performance of coatings in construction, automotive and aerospace industries. By knowing how well a coating can resist separation, manufacturers can ensure their products meet the standards and perform in real-world conditions.

Adhesion Test Methods

There are several adhesion test methods, each with its own advantages and applications. Some of them are:

  • Pull-off adhesion testing: This method involves applying continuous pull-off pressure to a dolly attached to the coating surface until the coating is separated from the substrate. It is used for its accuracy and to get quantitative results.

  • Tape testing: This method involves applying tape to the coating surface and then removing it to check the adhesion. It’s a quick and simple method, used for preliminary testing.

  • Cross-hatch cutting: This method involves cutting a cross-hatch pattern into the coating and then applying tape or other adhesive material to check the adhesion. It’s used for coatings on flat surfaces.

  • Knife testing: This method involves cutting the coating with a knife to check the adhesion to the substrate. It’s a qualitative method to get information about the adhesion characteristics.

Industry uses of Adhesion Testing

Adhesion testing is used in:

  • Construction: Adhesion testing is used to check the bonding of coatings to concrete structures, to ensure the coating’s durability and performance. This is critical for the building and infrastructure’s longevity and safety.

  • Automotive: Adhesion testing is used to check the bonding of coatings to metal substrates, to ensure the coating’s durability and performance. To maintain the looks and protection of automotive finishes.

  • Aerospace: Adhesion testing is used to check the bonding of coatings to composite materials, to ensure the coating’s durability and performance. This is crucial for aerospace components’ safety and efficiency.
