Marshall Compactor, Mechanical, Rotating Base, 6in Molds
The Gilson Mechanical Marshall Compactor is a heavy-duty, precision-engineered machine designed to prepare hot mix asphalt specimens for Marshall stability and flow, specific gravity, and void content testing. Utilizing a 6in rotating mold and delivering 64 blows per minute (BPM), this compactor ensures accurate and reliable Marshall test specimens every time.
How It Works
Mechanical compactors with rotating bases use 22.5lb (10.2kg) bevel-faced hammers to prepare 6in (152.4mm) diameter specimens at 64BPM. The compactor is powered by a robust 3/4hp electric motor that lifts the hammer to the precise height for each blow, ensuring consistent and uniform compaction. These models can easily convert to compact 4in samples with the optional 4in Marshall Conversion Kit, providing added versatility for different testing requirements.
User-Friendly Controls
The user-programmable controller allows operators to set blows between 1 and 999, with real-time displays showing the current blow count and BPM throughout testing. To produce uniform sample preparation, the controller automatically stops the hammer when the compaction process is complete, allowing the mold to be inverted for compaction on the opposite side and ensuring the same number of blows is applied to each side.
Enhanced Safety Features
Safety is a top priority with the Gilson Mechanical Marshall Compactor. The compactor is fully enclosed to minimize exposure to moving parts. A safety interlock system prevents operation unless the compactor door is securely closed and latched, reducing the risk of injury. The machine is also equipped with an emergency stop (E-stop) button as an added layer of protection, which instantly cuts power in case of an emergency.
What's Included
Each Gilson Mechanical Marshall Compactor comes complete with everything you need to get started:
- ASTM-compliant oak pedestal with steel plate
- All-stainless steel hammer assembly
- Rotating compaction mold assembly
- Gilson's exclusive easy clamp mold securing system
Order additional mold and hammer assemblies to preheat components for a more efficient workflow.
Power Options
Compactors operate on 120V, 60Hz power supply as standard. Add an "F" suffix to the model number to specify 230V, 50Hz operation, or an "S" suffix to specify 230V, 60Hz operation, making it suitable for use in a variety of international settings.
