Wiring and Signal Transmission
For Thermocouples: It is crucial that the extension wire material matches the alloys used in the positive and negative legs of the thermocouple. For instance, a Type K thermocouple must be used with a Type K extension wire to ensure signal integrity and prevent measurement errors. If your thermocouple sensor assembly includes a transmitter, standard copper wire can be used to carry the converted (4 to 20) mA analog signal back to your control equipment.
For RTD Sensors: RTD sensors utilize standard copper instrumentation cable to transmit the resistance-based signal to the control or readout device. Similar to thermocouples, if a transmitter is integrated into the RTD sensor assembly, it will convert the signal, allowing for the use of copper wire to send the scalable (4 to 20) mA output to the process control system.
