Chem-Crest ProPass (1 Gallon)
A powerful, phosphate-free citric passivation concentrate and deoxidizer cleaner, available in a convenient 1-gallon bottle.
Product Overview Chem-Crest ProPass is expertly formulated to enhance and protect your metal components. This advanced solution is designed to remove surface contamination, significantly increase corrosion resistance, and eliminate discoloration, tarnish, scale, and oxides. It serves as a superior, safer alternative to traditional nitric acid passivation methods and is certified to pass rigorous citric acid passivation evaluations, including ASTM A967. For tailored advice on integrating Chem-Crest ProPass into your specific processes, please contact a Crest representative.
Key Benefits
- Removes Contaminants: Effectively eliminates light oils, scales, oxides, and other common contaminants from part surfaces. For optimal performance and to extend the life of the solution, pre-cleaning parts ultrasonically before passivation is recommended.
- Enhances Corrosion Resistance: Forms a passive, protective layer on metal surfaces, guarding against future corrosion and environmental damage.
- Restores Appearance: Efficiently removes tarnish, discoloration, and scale, restoring the metal's original luster and finish.
- Safe and Compliant: A phosphate-free and less hazardous alternative to nitric acid, ensuring a safer work environment and easier compliance.
Operating Conditions For optimal results, follow these guidelines:
- Recommended Dilution: Use a 10–20% concentration by volume for standard passivation. For heavy descaling applications, a 25% concentration is recommended.
- Operating Temperature: Heat the solution to 150°–180°F (65°–82°C).
- Passivation Times:
- 140°–160°F (60°–71°C): Minimum of 4 minutes
- 120°–140°F (49°–60°C): Minimum of 10 minutes
- 70°–120°F (21°–49°C): Minimum of 20 minutes
- Rinsing: A thorough rinse is crucial after passivation. Use water heated to 100°–150°F (38°–65°C) for best results.
- Custom Recommendations: Contact your Crest representative for product-line-specific advice to optimize your process.
Substrate Compatibility Chem-Crest ProPass is highly versatile and safe for use on a wide range of materials:
- Metals: Compatible with brass, bronze, copper, stainless steel alloys, zinc, and aluminum.
- Non-Metals: Safe on glass, ceramics, and most plastics.
- Special Note for Ferrous Metals: Non-stainless steel surfaces are susceptible to flash rusting after treatment. They must be immediately protected with a suitable rust inhibitor.
