The AutoRice™ Digital Manometer/Controller is a precision instrument designed to measure and regulate vacuum pressure and time with exceptional accuracy. This advanced controller can also be equipped with optional shaker vibration monitoring capabilities, making it an invaluable tool for theoretical maximum specific gravity testing (Rice Test) of hot-mix asphalt samples.

By carefully controlling vacuum pressure, vacuum time, and shaker vibration energy, the AutoRice™ Controller delivers dramatic improvements in inter-laboratory repeatability and accuracy. Until now, actual shaker energy profiles have not been monitored, leading to repeatability issues and potential sample stripping caused by variations in acceleration and frequency energy produced by rice shakers. The AutoRice™ Controller addresses this problem head-on, providing accurate measurements that help establish parameters for adjusting settings between different shakers.

With a simple push of a button, the AutoRice™ Controller starts the vacuum pump, regulates vacuum pressure, controls vacuum time, and displays vacuum pressure in real time. The optional Shaker Sensor, purchased separately, attaches directly to the pycnometer and connects to the controller's USB port to measure vibration acceleration and frequency. Data from the sensor can then be used to calculate a "shaker factor" to establish proper vibration levels for your specific equipment.

Setting up the AutoRice™ Controller is straightforward, thanks to its intuitive menu-driven software. It effectively replaces traditional analog or digital manometers, offering a more streamlined and accurate testing process. Users can enter sample weights directly into the system, which then automatically calculates maximum specific gravity results. All data from each test cycle can be downloaded to a PC via the USB port, allowing for easy review and ensuring adherence to test specifications. Documented test data can be conveniently stored, shared, or emailed for collaborative analysis.

The AutoRice™ Controller and optional Shaker Sensor are fully compatible with Gilson's Rice Shaker and work seamlessly with glass, metal, or plastic pycnometers. The controller's compact design allows for flexible placement, whether on a benchtop or wall-mounted for space-saving convenience. Additionally, this model automates the saturation process for AASHTO T 283 Moisture-Induced Damage specimens, further expanding its utility in the lab.

Equipped with a 3/8in (10mm) hose barb connection, the Controller can manage vacuum pumps up to 3/4hp to ±0.4mm at 27.5mmHg. This model includes the PumpSaver™ Air Dryer, which helps protect the vacuum pump from moisture damage, extending its operational life. Both models operate on nominal 120–240V, 50/60Hz electrical supplies, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of laboratory environments. To maximize the lifespan of your vacuum pump, we recommend using the PumpSaver™ Air Dryer when operating the AutoRice™ device.
