Zirconium Oxide Grinding Bowl (150mL) for Fritsch Planetary Mill
The 150mL Zirconium Oxide grinding bowl is specifically engineered for use with the Fritsch Premium Planetary Mill. This high-quality bowl houses the grinding balls and sample material during the milling process, ensuring efficient and contamination-free results. Each bowl set comes complete with a matching lid and a secure sealing ring for safe operation.
Zirconium oxide is an ideal material for grinding fibrous and abrasive samples. Its high density, exceptional hardness, and excellent wear resistance prevent sample contamination and ensure a long service life, even with challenging materials.
Key Considerations for Use:
- Material Compatibility: As a general rule, the grinding bowl material must be harder than the sample being processed to avoid abrasion and contamination.
- Balanced Operation: The Fritsch Premium Planetary Mill requires two grinding bowls for balanced operation. Always use two identical bowls with equal loads (sample plus grinding balls) at opposite grinding stations to prevent vibration and ensure optimal performance.
- Counterweights: If only one sample is being processed, a second bowl of equal total mass should be used as a counterweight. This can be achieved by filling an identical empty bowl with a material like fine sand until its weight matches the sample bowl.
- Grinding Balls: Please note that grinding balls are essential for the milling process and must be purchased separately. For best results, use grinding balls made of the same material as the bowl (zirconium oxide).
Grinding Bowl Material Guide:
- Agate: Ideal for soft to medium-hard samples where metal-free grinding is essential.
- Zirconium Oxide: The perfect choice for fibrous, abrasive, and tough samples, offering high wear resistance.
- Hardened Stainless Steel: Well-suited for hard, medium-hard, and brittle samples.
- Tungsten Carbide: Recommended for very hard and abrasive samples, providing the highest level of hardness and wear resistance.
