Ultra Pump Air Meter for Concrete Pressure Meters

The Concrete Air Meter Ultra Pump fits all Type B Concrete Air Meters (including the Humboldt Press-Ur-Meter and Forney Press-Aire™ Meter) and is the best operating brass pump available. It’s all brass construction resists acids in cement. The pressure gauge is an integral component of the air meter system, making it more accurate and easier to use. The gauge has a stainless steel housing for durability, a gauge with calibration for easy adjustments, and full scale accuracy for maximum measurement capacity. Different gauge types are available to fit your testing needs, including the exclusive Gilson Gorilla Gauge known for its precision. The digital gauge has a threaded bezel with O-Ring for added durability and waterproof sealing, a rubber boot, and a backlit LCD screen for readability in any light. The enclosure is made from ABS plastic. All parts, including valve, are replaceable.

Meets Test Methods: AASHTO T152 ASTM C 231. For information on the ASTM C151 method, the Expansion Index Consolidometer for predicting swelling potential of compacted soils, and cement autoclave expansion testing, see Understanding ASTM C151: Essential Guide for Cement Expansion Testing

Concrete air meters are specialized tools used to measure the amount of air in freshly mixed concrete. These pressure meters are crucial to ensure concrete quality and durability, as too much air can reduce strength and increase permeability. Concrete air meters work by using a pressure chamber to equalize the air pressure in the meter with the unknown amount of air in the concrete sample. The meter then reads the air content as a direct percentage of air in the sample. The standard test method is based on Boyle’s Law, so you get accurate and repeatable results according to ASTM and AASHTO standards. There are three types of concrete air meters: pressure meters, volumetric meters, and air entrainment meters. Each has its own features and benefits but they all serve the same purpose of measuring entrained air content in fresh concrete. Pressure meters are known for their precision and reliability so they’re a popular choice among professionals. Volumetric air meters are used when the fresh concrete mix has lightweight aggregates. Regardless of the type, these pressure air meters are must-haves for anyone working with freshly mixed concrete to ensure the final product meets the required strength and durability standards. Testing air content in various concrete mixes is critical for quality control and durability of finished structures. The Super Air Meter also measures air void spacing in fresh concrete for freeze-thaw durability.

Ultra Pump Features and Benefits

The Ultra Pump is a high-performance pump for concrete air meters. Its features and benefits are:

  • Fast and Efficient: The Ultra Pump builds test pressure fast with fewer strokes for high-volume testing applications

  • Durable and Long-Lasting: The pump’s all-brass construction and unique check valve design eliminates “o”-ring seal problems associated with other style pumps for reliable performance and long life. The replacement air pump is solid construction for long use.

  • Easy to Use: The pump’s ergonomic handle and smooth operation is comfortable to use even for extended periods. The handle has vinyl coated handles for comfort and corrosion resistance.

  • Accurate Results: The Ultra Pump’s precise pressure control and calibration adjustments gives accurate measurements of entrained air content in fresh concrete. Calibration adjustments are easy to do using the included calibration tubes and vessels.

  • Low Maintenance: The pump’s design allows for easy disassembly and cleaning, reduces maintenance time and cost. The shielded piston area protects the piston from dirt and water ingress, and stainless steel ball valves for reliable control and durability. Stainless steel clamps for durability and easy adjustment, self locking clamps for secure, watertight connections. Proper tension in the sealing components is critical for a watertight seal. The sloped lid design allows water and concrete to wipe off easily, reduces maintenance. The design also prevents areas that hold concrete, making cleaning easier, and maintenance issues are minimized by eliminating cavities and trapping areas that can cause repair problems. Replacement parts are available for maintenance and calibration.

Accessories to Concrete Air Entrainment Test: Pressure Gauge

Tamping rods for slump cone test have hemispherical tips and are for use when consolidating concrete specimens in required tests that include slump, entrained air content, unit weight measure and compressive strength. Tamping rod and tamping rod strike are included for proper sample preparation. Aluminum straightedge and rod strike off bar are included for accurate surface leveling. Preparation and testing of concrete specimens is crucial for reliable results. Calibration vessel is an essential accessory for accurate measurements.

Concrete Strike-Off Bar is used to remove excess material. Inside calibration tube is included in calibration kits.

Plastic carrying case is included for protection and portability. Carrying case with die and die cut foam padding ensures secure storage and transport of all components. Kit includes: calibration vessels, tubes, tamping rod, aluminum straightedge, rod strike off bar and other essential tools for complete testing.

Replacement Gauges in fresh Concrete Air Meter Parts are quality, dependable gauges that fit most Type B Concrete Air Meters.

Concrete Testing Introduction

Concrete testing is an essential part of the construction process, every structure built with concrete must meet strict standards for strength, durability and safety. One of the most important tests performed on freshly mixed samples is the measurement of air content. This is where concrete air meters come in. Concrete air meters such as the Type B Concrete Air Meter are designed to measure entrained – tiny, intentionally introduced air bubbles that improve the workability and durability of the concrete. By measuring the air content in freshly mixed sample, contractors and engineers can verify the mix meets project specifications and complies with industry standards like ASTM C231 and AASHTO T152. Using a reliable meter ensures the concrete will perform as expected, reduces the risk of future problems and delivers high quality, long lasting structures.

What is the Ultra Pump Air Meter?

The Ultra Pump Air Meter is a precision instrument designed to deliver fast and accurate measurements of air content in freshly mixed sample. With a stainless steel gauge and brass pump, this meter is built to withstand daily use on construction sites and in testing labs. The pump is designed to build test pressure fast with fewer strokes, makes testing more efficient. The Ultra Pump Air Meter has a watertight seal for reliable results even in harsh field conditions. Each meter comes with a carrying case for portability, calibration tubes for adjustments and clear operating instructions to guide you through the testing process. Meets ASTM C231 and AASHTO T152 requirements, the Ultra Pump Air Meter is a complete solution for anyone who needs to measure air in mixed concrete with confidence and accuracy.

How the Ultra Pump Air Meter Works

The Ultra Pump Air Meter works by introducing a known volume of air at a specific test pressure into a concrete sample, according to Boyle’s Law. As the air is released into the pressure chamber, the change in volume in the sample directly correlates to the amount of air present. This is then displayed on the gauge, so you can quickly and accurately measure content. The sloped top design makes cleaning easier and prevents water and concrete residue from accumulating, so performance is consistent. The Ultra Pump Air Meter also has a reliable check valve that eliminates common problems with ‘o’-ring seals, so there’s less maintenance and more reliability. This thoughtful design means every test delivers precise results, making the Ultra Pump Air Meter a trusted tool for concrete professionals.

Measuring Air Content: Why It Matters

Measuring air in freshly mixed samples is crucial for long term performance and durability of concrete structures. Entrained, introduced during mixing, forms tiny air voids that act as buffers against freeze-thaw cycles, relieve internal pressure and prevent cracking in concrete. Maintaining the right content improves the workability of the mix and reduces the risk of defects like honeycombing and surface imperfections. By using meters like the Ultra Pump Air Concrete Meter and the Concrete Maturity Meter, contractors and engineers can verify the air content in fresh concrete samples meets project requirements and industry standards. This reduces costly repairs and maintenance down the line and ensures the finished structure will withstand its environment. Measuring content is a key step in producing high quality concrete.
