What is a Thermocouple?
Thermocouples are the most common, versatile, and convenient devices used for temperature measurement. They operate by converting heat into a usable engineering unit—an electrical signal (EMF)—that serves as an input for process controllers, recorders, and other monitoring equipment.
A thermocouple consists of two dissimilar metal wires joined together at one end, known as the "hot" or measuring junction. When this junction is heated, a temperature gradient is created, generating a small voltage (Electromotive Force or EMF). This voltage is measured at the opposite end (the reference junction) and precisely converted into a temperature reading.
