A Type K male connector is designed to terminate Type K thermocouple wires, facilitating a quick and secure connection to instrumentation. These connectors feature two blades, which are standard for Type K thermocouples. Each blade is clearly marked for positive (chromel) and negative (alumel) leads, ensuring correct polarity and accurate temperature readings.

For users who require custom probe lengths or configurations, separate connectors and bulk rolls of Type K thermocouple wire are readily available. This allows for on-demand fabrication of thermocouple probes. The process typically involves stripping the ends of the two thermocouple wires, inserting them into the connector's terminals, and then either soldering or crimping them securely. The temperature measurement itself occurs at the electrical junction formed by the two dissimilar metals at the probe's tip. This method is particularly useful for creating inexpensive, disposable probes for specific applications.

Beyond Type K, similar male and female connectors are available for other common thermocouple types, such as Type T. These connectors allow for the creation of both probes and extension cables by simply stripping the wire ends for crimping or soldering, or by directly attaching the appropriate male or female connectors to the thermocouple wires. This versatility provides flexibility in sensor placement and system integration.
