Type J Thermocouple, 1/4in OD, 12in L, 1/2in NPT SS Hex Nipple
Overview
This Type J Thermocouple is a versatile and robust temperature sensing device engineered for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications. Thermocouples are the industry standard for temperature measurement due to their convenience, reliability, and broad operational range. They function by converting thermal energy into a readable electrical signal (EMF), which is then used as an input for process controllers, recorders, and data loggers.
How Thermocouples Work
A thermocouple operates on the principle of the Seebeck effect. It consists of two wires made from dissimilar metals, which are welded together at one end to form a "hot" junction. This is the sensing point that is placed in the environment to be measured. The opposite end is the "cold" or reference junction. When a temperature difference exists between the hot and cold junctions, a small voltage or Electromotive Force (EMF) is generated. This voltage is proportional to the temperature difference and can be accurately measured and converted into a precise temperature reading based on standardized calibration tables.
Key Features and Specifications
- Thermocouple Type: J (Iron-Constantan). Known for its high sensitivity and reliability in the mid-temperature range, making it a cost-effective choice for many applications.
- Probe Diameter (OD): 1/4 inch
- Probe Length: 12 inches
- Process Connection: 1/2" NPT Stainless Steel Hex Nipple, providing a secure, threaded connection for easy installation into pipes, tanks, or vessels.
- Conduit Opening: 3/4" NPT for easy connection to standard electrical conduits, protecting the lead wires.
- Operating Temperature Range: 0 to 760°C (32 to 1400°F). Ideal for monitoring processes in plastics manufacturing, heat treating, and industrial furnaces.
- Construction: Built for durability and accuracy. With proper selection of thermocouple wires and sheath materials, thermocouples can measure temperatures ranging from -200°C to 2316°C (-328°F to 4200°F).
Applications
This Type J thermocouple is suited for various environments, including:
- Plastics and rubber processing
- Heat treating and annealing ovens
- Food and beverage processing
- General industrial and OEM equipment
