The Proctor Penetrometer Set is used to measure penetration resistance of fine soils. The penetrometer consists of a spring dynamometer with a scale on the handle stem graduated from 10-130lbf (45-580N) in 2lbf (9N) increments. A sliding ring on the stem gives shear strength reading.
This basic proctor penetrometer set includes interchangeable needles threaded with square inches (square centimeters); 1 (6.45), 3/4 (4.84), 1/2 (3.23), 1/3 (2.15), 1/5 (1.29), 1/10 (0.65), 1/20 (0.32), 1/30 (0.22) and 1/40 (0.16). Extra replacement needles available.
Comes in foam-lined wooden box with carrying handle. The proctor penetrometer set also includes carrying case for needle set which has various interchangeable needles point for convenience and portability.
Meets Test Method:ASTM D1558
Certified MTP recommends different types and styles of soil penetrometers for soil density tests:
Overview and Functionality
The Proctor Penetrometer Set is a laboratory testing device to establish the moisture-penetration resistance relations of fine soils. This device is used to measure the penetration resistance of soils, a key parameter in determining the bearing capacity and unconfined compressive strength of cohesive soils. The proctor penetrometer complies with ASTM D1558, the Proctor Penetrometer Set gives accurate and reliable results. The device has a spring dynamometer with pressure indicating scale to measure the shear strength obtained during the test. A must have for geotechnical engineers and researchers who need precise data on soil properties.
Key Components and Features
The Proctor Penetrometer Set has several key components and features. Interchangeable needles of various areas to test different fine grained soils. Needles are designed to measure penetration resistance. Sliding ring on stem gives shear strength reading. Spring dynamometer is graduated from 10-130lbf (45-580N) in 2lbf (9N) increments. Comes in foam-lined wooden box with carrying handle for convenience and portability.
Applications and Uses
The Proctor Penetrometer Set has many applications in geotechnical engineering and research. Used to determine the moisture-penetration resistance relations of fine soils which is crucial in designing foundations, pavements and other infrastructure projects. Used to measure bearing capacity and unconfined compressive strength of cohesive soils to understand soil behavior. A must have for researchers studying fine grained soils and accurate and reliable for any laboratory testing program. Interchangeable needles and replacement resistance needles makes it cost effective for long term testing and research.
