Proctor Penetrometer Set
The Proctor Penetrometer Set is used to measure penetration resistance of fine grained soils. The penetrometer has a spring dynamometer with a scale on the handle stem graduated from 10-130lbf (45-580N) in 2lbf (9N) increments. A sliding ring on the penetrometer stem gives shear strength reading.
This basic penetrometer set includes interchangeable threaded needles with specified area in square inches (square centimeters); 1 (6.45), 3/4 (4.84), 1/2 (3.23), 1/3 (2.15), 1/5 (1.29), 1/10 (0.65), 1/20 (0.32), 1/30 (0.22) and 1/40 (0.16). The area of each needle is crucial for standardizing test measurements and ensuring consistent results during soil penetration testing. Extra needles available.
The penetrometer comes in foam-lined wooden box with carrying handle. Also includes carrying case for needle set which has various interchangeable needle points for convenience and portability. The weight of the Proctor Penetrometer Set is approximately 5 kg, making it easy to handle during testing.
Proctor Penetrometer Meets Test Method: ASTM D 1558
Certified MTP recommends different types and styles of penetrometers for density tests:
Overview and Functionality of Proctor Penetrometer
The Proctor Penetrometer Set is a laboratory testing device to establish the moisture-penetration resistance relations of fine grained soils. This device is used to measure the penetration resistance of soils, a key parameter in determining the bearing capacity and unconfined compressive strength of cohesive soils. Complies with ASTM D1558, the Proctor Penetrometer Set gives accurate and reliable results. The device has a spring dynamometer with pressure indicating scale to measure the shear strength obtained during the test. A must have for geotechnical engineers and researchers who need precise data on soil properties. The set includes or is compatible with various accessories, such as interchangeable needles and storage cases, to enhance usability and versatility.
