Hydraulic Sample Extruder

The Hydraulic Sample Extruder, also known as a sample ejector, extracts undisturbed soil samples from full size thin-walled samplers (Shelby Tubes) in one stroke. Used for sample prep for triaxial, permeability, direct shear, consolidation, unconfined compression and more. Bench-top extruder is set up for 3in (76mm) diameter tubes of 30in or 36in (762mm or 914mm) length, but can also process 2in (51mm) diameter tubes with the 2in Sample Adapter and adapter ring. Smooth, easy to control piston stroke makes for easy handling and fast sample processing.

Extruder can apply up to 5,600lbf (24.9kN) of force to get even the toughest soil samples out. Hydraulic system controls horizontally mounted piston. Includes sample receiving trough to minimize disturbance while ejecting and logging sample. 1.7gpm (6.4lpm) hydraulic jack pump is powered by 1hp electric motor and hydraulic oil reservoir has 2.5gal (47L) capacity.

Features:

  • Easy handling and sample preparation time for many soil tests

  • Fast sample processing

  • Gets most samples out

Dimensions: 84x23x18in (2,134x584x457mm), WxDxH.

Principles and Applications for Soil or Asphalt Samples

Sample extractors are used to extract compacted soil or compacted soil or asphalt samples from various molds such as Marshall molds and compaction molds. The principle behind these devices is to apply a controlled amount of pressure to safely and efficiently extract the sample from the mold. This process is critical in laboratory testing and quality control where the sample must be undisturbed to get accurate results. By using a sample extractor, technicians can extract soil or asphalt samples with minimal disturbance, reducing the risk of contamination or damage. This makes the test of compacted asphalt results more reliable and sample preparation time faster and safer for laboratory personnel.

Key Features and Technical Specifications of Compaction Molds

Our sample ejectors have several features that make sample extraction efficient and safe. The sturdy three-column frame made of plated steel is rugged and durable and can withstand heavy use. Hand operated capacity hydraulic jack pump adjusts to 12,000lbf (53.4kN) capacity and 5.75in (146mm) stroke for precise control of ejection process to get smooth and even sample ejection, with the extruder disc attached to the top of the piston ensuring level sample ejection. The extruder disc set allows for easy switching between different mold sizes, 4in and 6in (102mm and 152mm) Marshall molds and compaction molds. Adapter rings and extruder discs are compatible with various mold sizes making our sample ejectors a must have in any laboratory that needs to test compacted asphalt. These are supplied complete with the extruder.
