The Gilson Vacuum Extractor is a high-performance instrument designed for the quantitative determination of bitumen in hot-mix asphalt (HMA) paving mixtures using the vacuum extraction method. With a 3,000g capacity, this extractor is built for efficiency and precision, making it an essential tool for asphalt testing laboratories and field operations.

Design & Construction

The extractor base is a 16in (407mm) diameter x 8in (203mm) high painted aluminum extraction collection tank, equipped with carrying handles for easy transport, a gauge-fitted vacuum source connection, and an extract drain valve for convenient solvent disposal. Two sight-glass gauges allow operators to monitor solvent levels and the color of the extract during the extraction process, ensuring accuracy and control throughout.

The removable funnel ring clamps filter paper and a perforated aluminum support plate to the base, sealed with a Viton O-Ring for a secure, leak-free fit. The sample and solvent are placed on the filter paper inside the ring, keeping the process clean and contained.

• Quick-action wing bolt fasteners between the ring and base, with no exposed threads to reduce damage risk
