Flow Cone Apparatus for Grout with 3/4in Orifice, Complete Set
Grout is a highly fluid material designed to fill voids, seal joints, and reinforce structures in a variety of construction and industrial applications. Its flow properties are essential for ensuring proper placement, workability, and consistency, especially when used in demanding environments like preplaced aggregate concrete or around pre-stressing tendons. The ability to accurately measure these flow properties is critical for achieving reliable results and maintaining quality standards on the job site.
The grout flow cone is a specialized tool used to determine the flowability of fluid hydraulic cement grout. As part of a complete flow cone set, this device enables technicians to assess the efflux time of grout, which is a direct indicator of its consistency and suitability for specific applications. The flow cone method, as outlined in ASTM C939, involves timing how long it takes for a measured volume of grout to discharge through a standardized at the base of the cone. This process is vital for evaluating the flow characteristics of not only grouts but also mortars, muds, and many other types of fluid materials.
A typical flow cone set is comprised of a robust cast aluminum or brass cone, a durable stainless steel beaker for collecting discharged grout, and an adjustable point gauge to ensure precise measurement of the initial grout level. The set is supplied complete with spare parts and a range of accessories, including interchangeable orifices of different diameters, allowing users to adapt the system for various grout types and testing requirements. This versatility makes the flow cone set an indispensable product for determining the flow properties and capacity of grout in both laboratory and field settings.

To perform the Grout Flow Cone Test (and to learn about related tools like the Mini Slump Cone for accurate concrete testing):
-
Choose the correct flow of grout into the cone with the right orifice for the grout being tested.
-
Wet the inside of the flow of grout into the cone to prevent grout from sticking.
-
Place your finger over the discharge opening to prevent grout from flowing out too soon.
-
Pour the grout sample into the cone until the grout surface touches the pointer.
-
Start the stopwatch and remove your finger at the same time.
-
Stop the stopwatch when the grout flow from the discharge opening stops.
-
Record the time, the time shown on the stopwatch.
For efficient grout placement monitoring, consider using masonry grout windows.
Make sure to prepare the grout sample according to the test flow cone method to get consistent and accurate results.
