Cure & Seal 1315 EF: Earth-Friendly Concrete Curing and Sealing Compound

Cure & Seal 1315 EF is a high-performance, non-yellowing, 30% solids acrylic copolymer compound designed for the curing, sealing, and dustproofing of freshly finished concrete surfaces. As an Earth Friendly (EF) formula, it is characterized by its low odor and an ultra-low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) content of less than 100 g/L, making it compliant with the strictest air quality regulations across all regions of the United States, including SCAQMD and CARB. This advanced formulation may contribute to LEED credits for green building projects.

Cure & Seal 1315 EF penetrates the concrete surface to form a durable, breathable membrane that retains essential moisture for proper curing, leading to stronger, more durable concrete. It also provides a protective seal that resists common stains, chemicals, and abrasion while delivering an attractive, easy-to-clean gloss finish.

2. INTENDED USES

Cure & Seal 1315 EF is engineered for both curing new concrete and sealing existing concrete surfaces.

  • Primary Use: Apply to freshly finished horizontal concrete to serve as a membrane-forming curing compound that exceeds ASTM C309 and C1315 performance standards. Ideal for interior and exterior applications.
  • Secondary Use: Apply to existing, unsealed concrete to provide a dustproof, protective, and decorative sealed surface.
  • Applications:
    • Commercial and residential concrete slabs
    • Sidewalks, driveways, and patios
    • Parking garage decks and ramps
    • Warehouse and industrial floors
    • Architectural and decorative concrete

3. FEATURES & BENEFITS

  • May Contribute to LEED Credits: Supports sustainable building project goals (e.g., under EQ Credit: Low-Emitting Materials).
  • Earth Friendly (EF): Ultra-low VOC content (<100 g/L) and low odor for enhanced worker and occupant safety.
  • Nationally Compliant: VOC compliant in all regions of the United States.
  • Superior Curing: Exceeds ASTM standards for moisture retention, ensuring optimal concrete hydration, strength development, and reduced shrinkage cracking.
  • Durable Protection: Seals against common contaminants, dust, and light abrasion.
  • UV Stable & Non-Yellowing: Formulated with high-quality acrylics that resist degradation and discoloration from sun exposure.
  • Aesthetic Finish: Enhances the concrete's appearance with an attractive, medium-gloss sheen.
  • Safe & Easy to Use: Water-based, non-flammable formula simplifies storage, transport, and application.

4. TECHNICAL DATA & PROPERTIES

  • Compliance:
    • ASTM C1315, Type 1, Class A
    • ASTM C309, Type I, Classes A & B
    • AASHTO M-148, Type 1, Classes A & B
  • Solids Content: 30%
  • VOC Content: Actual VOC = 92 g/L (Compliant with Federal EPA, OTC, LADCO, SCAQMD & CARB)
  • Moisture Retention (ASTM C156): <0.40 kg/m² in 72 hours
  • Dry Time (@ 70°F, 50% RH):
    • Tack-Free: 1-2 hours
    • Recoat / Light Foot Traffic: 2-4 hours
    • Heavy Traffic: 12-24 hours
    • Note: Dry time is dependent on ambient temperature, humidity, and airflow.
  • Flash Point: >212°F (100°C)

5. ESTIMATING GUIDE & PACKAGING

  • Curing (First Coat):
    • Coverage Rate: 200 – 400 sq. ft./gallon (4.9 – 9.8 m²/liter)
  • Sealing (Second Coat):
    • Coverage Rate: 400 – 600 sq. ft./gallon (9.8 – 14.7 m²/liter)

Coverage rates are approximate. The final rate will depend on surface porosity, texture, and application method.

6. APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Surface Preparation: For curing, the concrete surface must be freshly finished, with all bleed water evaporated. The surface should be hard enough to walk on without marring. For sealing existing concrete, the surface must be clean, dry, and free of any contaminants, previous coatings, or bond-breakers.

Mixing: Stir material thoroughly before and during application to ensure uniform solids distribution. Use a low-speed drill with a paddle mixer. DO NOT USE HIGH-SPEED MIXING EQUIPMENT, as this can introduce air bubbles. Do not thin or dilute.

Placement:

  1. Apply Cure & Seal 1315 EF uniformly using a low-pressure, non-atomizing sprayer (e.g., Dayton Spray-Pro #309233 or #309232), a solvent-resistant 3/8" nap roller, or a brush.
  2. Apply in thin, even coats, avoiding puddles and heavy buildup. Back-rolling is recommended when spraying to ensure even coverage.
  3. For optimal performance and gloss, apply a second coat at a right angle to the first. Allow the first coat to dry tack-free (approx. 2-4 hours) before recoating.

7. CLEAN-UP & STORAGE

  • Clean-up: Clean tools and equipment immediately with soap and water. Dried material may require mechanical removal or a suitable solvent like Green Bean Clean.
  • Storage: Store in original, tightly sealed containers in a dry, conditioned space between 40°F (4°C) and 90°F (32°C). Protect from freezing. Shelf life is 18 months in unopened containers.

8. LIMITATIONS

  • FOR PROFESSIONAL USE ONLY.
  • Do not apply at surface or ambient temperatures below 40°F (4°C) or if temperatures are expected to fall below this within 24 hours.
  • Do not apply to surfaces that will receive subsequent cementitious toppings, mortars, or adhesives unless the sealer is completely removed.
  • Avoid spraying into joints intended for sealing until after the sealant has been installed.
  • Sealed surfaces may become slippery when wet. Consider adding a non-slip additive for areas requiring extra traction.
  • Like most sealers, this product may show tire marks.
