Concrete Humidity Monitoring with Tec RH Meter Kit

Concrete Humidity Measurement Kit comes with the Tec RH Meter, a concrete moisture meter, to read the RH BluePeg Probes with the provided cable or adaptor. Unlike a air entrainment meter, the Tec RH Meter has a large LCD display that shows relative humidity, temperature (temp), air temperature, dew point (dpt), and GPP (grains of water per pound of air) with 0.1 resolution for all ranges. The Tec RH Meter can also measure and display air temperature, providing full ambient condition data. Relative humidity accuracy for probe and meter system is ±2% for 10-90%, and ±% for 0-10% or greater than 90%. Temperature accuracy is ±0.5° for 32° to 120°F, ±1° for 5° to 32°F and 120°F to 160°F. The Tec RH Meter also works as a standalone thermo-hygrometer to measure ambient conditions, and is also available separately with an adaptor and one BluePeg Probe. The meter uses a high-precision sensor for reliable readings and is compatible with data loggers for long-term monitoring and recording of humidity and temperature data. Measurement data can be stored on an SD card for easy transfer and analysis, and the meter automatically stores measurement data for later retrieval and analysis.

Measuring relative humidity transmission in concrete floor slabs prevents mold growth and future moisture damage to expensive floor coverings and coatings. Relative Humidity (RH) measurement gives a complete profile of moisture content throughout the depth of the concrete slab, not just the surface. The ability to display dpt (dew point temperature) is crucial for accurate environmental and material assessments.

A 0.625in (16mm) borehole is drilled into the concrete to the specified depth and lined with a plastic sleeve. Boreholes are allowed to reach temperature and moisture equilibrium, then a probe is inserted and connected to an electronic meter for periodic measurement of humidity levels. The provided cables allow for easy connection between probes and the meter, for remote and in-situ measurements. Probes are installed below the floor surface and covered with a cap between readings, so they don’t interfere with normal construction activities. The included RH adapter enables quick and secure connection of the BluePeg probe to the meter or data logger. The kit simplifies the install process for humidity monitoring in concrete.

Lignomat Concrete Humidity Measurement Kits meet ASTM F2170 requirements and includes all the necessary equipment for Relative Humidity (RH) testing. Concrete Humidity Monitoring

Concrete humidity monitoring is a must in ensuring the integrity and durability of concrete structures. It involves measuring the relative humidity (RH) levels within the concrete to determine its moisture content. This is to prevent moisture-related problems, such as mold growth, efflorescence, and structural damage. There are several methods for concrete humidity monitoring, including in-situ RH probes, non-destructive electronic meters, and anhydrous calcium chloride tests. Among these, in-situ RH probes are the most accurate and reliable, as they give a direct measurement of the moisture levels within the concrete. For example, surface-only moisture assessments can give misleading results by not detecting moisture deeper within the slab, whereas in-situ relative humidity testing reveals the true internal conditions. By measuring relative humidity accurately, professionals can make informed decisions to maintain the quality and longevity of concrete structures.

Relative Humidity Testing

Relative Humidity (RH) testing is a must in concrete construction and maintenance. It determines the moisture content of the concrete which is essential for proper bonding of flooring materials, coatings and other finishes. RH testing also helps to identify potential moisture related problems such as mold growth and structural damage before they become major issues. RH testing is also required by various building codes and standards including ASTM F2170 which specifies the procedures for measuring the relative humidity in concrete. By following these standards professionals can ensure their concrete structures meet the required quality and safety standards.

Note: Always follow the latest ASTM F2170 guidelines for RH testing.

Humidity Meters

There are various types of humidity meters to suit the needs of professionals across industries. Handheld humidity meters are popular for their portability and convenience, users can quickly measure relative humidity and temperature in any environment. These are ideal for spot checks and on-site assessments, gives accurate reading of ambient conditions.

For more comprehensive monitoring, data logging humidity meters are available. These devices can store measured values for extended periods, enables detailed analysis of humidity and temperature trends. This is useful for tracking changes in conditions and identifying potential moisture problems before they become major issues.

Combination meters offer even more versatility by measuring multiple parameters such as relative humidity, temperature and dew point temperature. These all-in-one devices are useful in construction, manufacturing and agriculture where monitoring of multiple environmental factors is required for quality control and preventing moisture related issues.

Many modern humidity meters have large display and user friendly interface, making it easy to read and record measurements. Advanced models may have USB interface, built-in data loggers and high precision sensors to ensure accurate and reliable results. When choosing a humidity meter, consider accuracy, range and resolution to ensure the device meets the specific requirements of your application. By choosing the right meter, users can confidently measure relative humidity and maintain optimal conditions for their projects.

Concrete Humidity Meter

Concrete Humidity is a must in the construction industry as excess concrete moisture content can cause floor failures, mold growth and damage to floor coverings. There are several ways to measure concrete moisture but relative humidity (RH) testing is the most accurate and reliable. Unlike surface-only methods, RH testing measures the moisture content throughout the depth of the concrete slab, gives a complete profile of the slab’s moisture condition. This method offers proof of accurate and reliable moisture assessment in compliance with industry standards. This comprehensive approach prevents problems and ensures concrete structures last longer.

Moisture Meter Calibration

Proper calibration of your moisture meter is essential to ensure that concrete moisture and relative humidity. Calibration involves adjusting the meter to match a known standard, such as a factory-calibrated reference point, to eliminate errors and maintain accuracy over time.

Many high-quality moisture meters, including the RH BluePeg probe, are factory calibrated and come with a calibration certificate that meets NIST standards. However, regular calibration—typically every 6 to 12 months—is recommended to prevent drift and ensure ongoing accuracy. Calibration can be performed using a reference meter or a calibration standard, and it’s important to keep detailed calibration records to track the meter’s performance and maintain compliance with industry standards.

By calibrating your moisture meters regularly, you can trust the accuracy and make informed decisions about concrete moisture, relative humidity and other critical parameters. This not only helps prevent costly errors but also ensures your testing meets the highest standards of quality and reliability.

Wet Bulb and Dew Point

Understanding wet bulb and dew point is key to accurately assessing conditions and relative humidity in concrete and other materials. The wet bulb temperature is determined by wrapping a thermometer in a wet cloth and exposing it to airflow; it represents the lowest temperature achievable through evaporation. Dew point temperature, on the other hand, is the point at which air becomes saturated with water vapor, causing dew or frost to form.

Measuring both wet bulb and dew point temperatures provides valuable insight into the potential for moisture problems, as these parameters help determine the actual relative humidity and the likelihood of condensation. Many advanced humidity meters and thermo-hygrometers are equipped to measure wet bulb and dew point temperatures in addition to relative humidity and temperature, offering a comprehensive view of conditions.

By monitoring these values, users can proactively identify and address moisture-related issues in concrete, building materials and other applications. Wet bulb and dew point temperatures requires a reliable humidity meter, ensuring that all environmental factors are considered when evaluating the risk of moisture problems.

ASTM F2170 Test Procedure

To use the Kit you need to follow a systematic approach to get accurate results. Here’s how:

  1. Determine how many RH probes you need for the concrete slab size.

  2. Calibrate the RH probes with a saturated salt solution.

  3. Drill holes in the concrete slab to the required depth (40% of the slab thickness if drying from one side only, 20% of the slab thickness if drying from two sides).

  4. Insert the RH probes into the holes and plug with plastic sleeves and caps.5. Let the probes equilibrate for 24 hours before taking readings.

  5. Use the CT-50B Tec RH Meter to read the RH probes and record the relative humidity, temperature, dew point and GPP.

  6. Take readings at regular intervals to monitor the moisture content of the concrete slab.

By following these steps you’ll get accurate and reliable data on your concrete moisture testing.
