Blaine Apparatus Calibration: Air Permeability U-Tube

Replacement Glass U-Tube for Blaine Air Permeability Apparatus.

Features:

Blaine Air Permeability Apparatus measures the fineness of Portland Cement by measuring the specific surface area of fine materials in square centimeters per gram of test sample. A quantity of air is drawn through a bed of definite porosity, and the rate of air flow is determined by the pore volume in the bed, a function of the size of particles. The resistance to this air flow is inversely related to particle size, ie finer particles create more resistance than coarser ones.

The apparatus consists of a stainless steel Blaine cell, plunger, perforated disc, calibrated U-tube manometer, and rubber aspirator and bulb, all mounted on a wooden panel with a base. 8oz bottle of red spirit manometer fluid, filter paper and woodblock for holding the cell during filling are also included.

NIST Portland Cement #46h is required by ASTM and AASHTO standards for the calibration of the apparatus.

Blaine Air Permeability Apparatus Overview

The Blaine Air Permeability Apparatus is a specialized instrument to measure the fineness of Portland cement and other fine materials. It is a must have in the construction industry to determine the specific surface area of cement which directly affects the quality and performance of the cement. The Blaine apparatus consists of several parts, a stainless steel Blaine cell, calibrated U-tube manometer, rubber aspirator bulb, filter paper and perforated disc. Each part plays a crucial role in the testing process to get accurate and reliable results. The stainless steel Blaine cell holds the cement sample, the calibrated U-tube manometer measures the air pressure difference, the filter paper and perforated disc maintains a uniform cement bed to measure the air flow. Overall the Blaine apparatus is a must have to measure the fineness of Portland cement to produce high quality construction materials.

Blaine Test

The Blaine test is a standard method to measure the fineness of Portland cement and other hydraulic cements. Fineness of cement affects the quality and performance of cement in construction. The Blaine test measures the specific surface area of the cement in square centimeters per gram. The test is done with Blaine air permeability apparatus which consists of stainless steel test cell, calibrated U-tube manometer and other parts.

The test sample of cement is compacted into a bed in the stainless steel test cell. Air is then drawn through the bed and the airflow is measured with the calibrated U-tube manometer. The resistance to airflow is directly proportional to the fineness of the cement; finer cements have higher resistance. This allows to calculate the specific surface area and get an idea of the quality and performance of the cement.

Calibration and Standards with Calibrated U Tube Manometer

The Blaine Air Permeability Apparatus is calibrated with a reference Portland cement of known specific surface area. Calibration is critical to get accurate and reliable results. During calibration, a known volume of air is drawn through a cell of definite porosity and the corresponding change in the manometer liquid level is measured. This sets the baseline for accurate measurements. The Blaine apparatus is calibrated as per ASTM C204 and AASHTO T153 standards to meet industry requirements. Also the apparatus is manufactured as per EN 196-6 and ASTM C204 specifications to ensure precision and reliability. By following these standards the Blaine apparatus gives consistent and accurate results making it a must have for quality control in construction industry.

Apparatus Parts

  • Stainless Steel Blaine Cell: The stainless steel Blaine cell is the main part of the apparatus used for measuring permeability. It has plunger and perforated disc and is calibrated. The cell is compatible with various accessories and spare parts required for Blaine test.

Apparatus Parts

The Blaine air permeability apparatus consists of several parts:

  • Stainless Steel Test Cell: This is where the test sample is placed and compacted into a bed. It holds the sample during the test.

  • Calibrated U-Tube Manometer: Measures the airflow through the compacted bed and gives direct reading of specific surface area of the cement.

  • Liquid Light Mineral Oil: Used to fill the U-tube manometer. It gives clear and accurate reading of the airflow.

  • Filter Paper: Placed at the bottom of the test cell. It supports the compacted bed of cement and prevents it from coming out during the test.

  • Perforated Disc: Placed above the cement bed. It distributes the airflow evenly throughout the compacted bed and gives consistent and accurate results.

  • Cement Bed: The compacted bed of cement formed during the test which is critical for measuring the airflow and calculating the specific surface area of the cement.

Each part is designed to get accurate and reliable Blaine test results making the apparatus a must have in construction industry.
