400,000lbf Concrete Compression Machine with Pro-Plus Control

Gilson MC-400PR: 400K Compression Machine with Pro-Plus Controller

MC-400 Series Concrete Compression Machines are accurate and reliable for testing the compressive strength of grout and mortar. The series offers many models and features to fit your testing needs. These compression testing machines have a 400,000lbf (1,780kN) capacity and come with a Fixed-Height Concrete Compression Machine Mounting Stand for safe and easy handling of samples. The machine can run full test cycles with minimal operator intervention. These rugged machines can test standard 6x12 concrete cylinders up to 11,300psi. Accessories are available to test different sized cubes, cores, masonry prisms, concrete cylinders and flexural beam concrete strength specimens, so it’s versatile for all types of samples. Frame stiffness meets or exceeds ACI 363 requirements for continuous loading. The heavy-duty construction has fully-welded corners for added stability and durability, and inside the crosshead seams, strong internal welds for added accuracy during testing. The machine performs day in and day out in demanding production environments. For those requiring higher capacity, consider the Gilson MC-500PR Concrete Compression Machine 500K Pro-Plus, which features a 500,000lbf capacity and advanced automation for enhanced testing applications.

A bottom-mounted hydraulic ram uses an upward force to compress. The first stage uses high volume and low pressure to advance the piston quickly. The 0.75 hp oil-immersed pump switches to the second stage at 135psi of pressure automatically. During this stage the low volume high-pressure flow loads at a continuous rate of 2,000–200,000lbf (8,896–889,600kN) per minute. The system can control and regulate the loading speed to get accurate and standardized results. Be sure to monitor the final load during testing to get accurate results.

The spherically-seated upper platen assembly is 6.5in (165mm) in diameter and is hardened and nickel-plated with a locking stem for quick change out of accessories. The rectangular lower platen is a compression table with a precision-ground piston with O-Ring seal and a Teflon® backup ring in a polished steel cylinder. The machine displays live data of the load being applied and allows you to easily find and select the test parameters for convenience and user-friendliness.High-pressure hydraulic safety valve and watchable steel fragment guard doors prevent overloading beyond machine capacity. Pressure bleed hole in the piston prevents ram overextension. Side-mounted controllers can be installed in an optional separate console. Choose from different controller types: automatic, manual or budget-friendly indicators to fit your application. Tests low strength concrete beams, versatile testing machine for all strength levels and can be used with a variety of testing beam molds for flexural strength specimens.

Additions or upgrades can be made to the machine: advanced controllers or software to improve functionality, automation or data management. The machine can measure the modulus of elasticity of concrete specimens and similar tools can detect and analyze rebar within concrete structures, key data on stiffness and durability.

Compression Machines

Compression machines are designed to test concrete specimens including concrete cylinders, cubes, blocks and beams. They are the backbone of the construction industry as they ensure it used in projects meets strict strength and safety standards. Available in various types—automatic, manual and portable—compression machines can test a wide range of specimens from 30,000 to 500,000 lbs. (133.5 to 2,224 kN). This versatility allows for testing of different specimen sizes and strengths making them suitable for routine quality control to specialized research applications.

Built with robust structural steel side members and solid steel crossheads these machines offer exceptional frame stiffness which is critical for producing consistent and repeatable test results year after year. The structural steel construction not only adds to the durability but also allows the machine to withstand the high loads required for concrete compression testing. Whether you are testing standard cylinders, low strength beams or specialty blocks the full range of compression machines can test all specimen types. Their compact and portable options make them ideal for both laboratory and field use providing flexibility and dependability wherever testing is required.

Why Compressive Strength

Compressive strength is the foundation of quality control. It measures the material’s ability to resist loads that try to reduce its size. This is critical for the safety and durability of structures. Industries such as construction, aerospace and automotive rely on compressive strength to verify that meets the required strength standards. By knowing the compressive strength engineers can make informed decisions about the suitability for different applications so the structures they design will be reliable and safe.

Compression Testing Best Practices

To get reliable test results you must follow best practices:

  • Proper specimen preparation and curing to ensure the samples are representative of the item.

  • Accurate rate control to maintain a consistent force application.

  • Minimal operator input to reduce human error and variability.

  • Regular calibration and maintenance of the compression machine to ensure accuracy and reliability.

  • Use automatic controllers for consistent and repeatable conditions.

  • Data storage and analysis for ongoing quality control and evaluation

By following these best practices you can get accurate and reliable compression testing and get valuable information about the strength and performance of your specimens.
