Product Overview
Our 3x6in Concrete Sample Cylinders are the essential tool for anyone in the construction industry. These cylinders are used for making in both field and laboratory settings, ensuring compliance with industry standards. It is crucial to obtain representative samples and follow proper procedures for curing concrete test specimens to meet industry standards and produce reliable test results. Compact size for when space is limited or smaller samples are required—if you need a larger sample, consider 6x12 concrete cylinders. Each cylinder is one piece for uniformity across all samples. Smooth non-absorbent surface for a moisture barrier for accurate test results. Concrete cylinders are environment friendly so they can be used in any testing environment.
Introduction
Sample cylinders are the backbone of the construction industry for testing. The 3x6in sample cylinder is a smaller version of the 6x12in cylinder, perfect for testing smaller samples. Adhering to standard curing procedures is crucial for accurate strength measurements, as deviations can lead to misleading results and unnecessary project delays. This size is great for when space is limited or smaller samples are required. Despite the smaller size these cylinders have the same accuracy and reliability as the larger ones so you meet the required strength standards. Strength test results are derived from the average of at least two tested at the same age, ensuring quality and compliance with project specifications.
Product Description
Concrete test cylinder molds are the tools to create units that represent a composite sample taken from a construction site. These cylinder molds are made from high quality plastic, steel or other rigid materials to hold fresh samples while it cures, after which a cylinder stripping tool for concrete molds removes test samples from the molds efficiently. The process of casting concrete cylinders must adhere to specific standards to ensure accurate assessment of compressive strength. It is crucial to prevent contamination during the molding process to ensure the samples are representative and free from external factors that could affect the test results. Available in various sizes including 4in diameter x 8in height or 6in x 12in these cylinder molds meet ASTM C31 and project specifications for consistent and repeatable results. Standard cured cylinders are required to verify the mix meets project specifications.
Curing Cylindrical Specimens ASTM
Curing concrete test specimens is a critical step in the testing process as it allows it to develop the strength and durability designed. Proper curing is maintaining the required moisture and temperature conditions to prevent moisture loss which can weaken. It is crucial that these conditions are maintained throughout the curing process to ensure accurate strength testing results. According to ASTM C31 there are two types of curing: initial curing and final curing. Initial curing is 24 to 48 hours where the test cylinders are kept in conditions that minimize moisture loss and temperature fluctuations. Final curing is placing the concrete cylinders in a controlled environment such as a moist room or water storage tank to maintain consistent moisture and temperature conditions so it can reach its designed strength. Field cured cylinders on the other hand are kept in the same environment as the structure and are required to determine if construction can proceed.
Concrete Cylinder Molds and Molding
Concrete cylinder molds are required for forming concrete test cylinders. These molds that are forming concrete test cylinders are designed to meet ASTM C470, C31, C192, AASHTO M 205, R 39 and T 23 test standards. Retainer rings are used in conjunction with these molds to ensure compatibility with compression machines and other concrete testing tools, yielding reliable results for the compressive strength of specimens. Available in 3x6in, 4x8in and 6x12in sizes these molds are made from durable materials like plastic, steel and cast iron. The high quality of these molds, including the added strength and dimensional stability provided by the lip, ensures they can withstand the construction process and provide a reliable way to create cylindrical concrete specimens for testing.
Handling Job Site Storage Problems of Concrete Test Cylinders
Proper handling, transportation, and storage of concrete test cylinders is important to prevent damage and get accurate test results. The robust and weather-resistant features of our concrete testing cylinders and molds eliminate job site storage problems, ensuring they can withstand harsh environments. During transport, the concrete cylinders must be cushioned against jarring and protected from freezing and moisture loss. Keeping the test cylinders in their concrete testing cylinders during transport provides extra protection. Upon arrival at the testing lab the concrete cylinders should be logged into the lab’s sample registry, removed from their cylinder molds, and placed in the final curing environment. Leaving the cylinders in the open air can cause moisture loss and physical damage which can affect the test results.
Concrete test cylinders are used in testing and quality control to verify the ready mixed sample meets the project’s strength requirements. It is crucial to follow proper procedures to avoid low strength test results, which can lead to significant delays and additional costs. These cylinders are tested at specified intervals, usually 7 days, 28 days and sometimes beyond depending on the project specifications. The test cylinder is placed in a compression testing machine where pressure is applied until the sample breaks and measures the concrete’s strength. The strength results of these tests will determine if the structural samples meets the design strength for the specific structural work being done. Testing and quality is a critical step to ensure the quality and reliability used in construction projects.
