24 x 5/8in Stainless Steel Tamping Rod with Measuring Scale

Tamping Rods are used in the consolidation of fresh concrete specimens in test applications for the slump, air and strength according to many ASTM and AASHTO standards. Stainless steel rods are corrosion resistant and plated for extra rust protection, with rounded ends and hemispherical tip at both ends. They come in various lengths and diameters and are round in cross section, available in 4 models.

Tamping Rods are 24x5/8in (610x16mm) LxDia, where 'Dia' is the diameter of the round rod. The HM-48 has a measuring scale with 1/4in increments engraved on one side, the HM-48A has no measurement markings. Both are for consolidating 6x12in (152x305mm) cylinder specimens. These rods meet ASTM C143 and AASHTO T 119 when testing the workability with Slump Cones. They also conform to ASTM C31/31M for curing specimens in the field and testing air of concrete by volumetric, gravimetric or pressure method as indicated in ASTM C173, ASTM C138 and AASHTO T 152.

Tamping Rod is 12x3/8in (305x10mm) LxDia. It is required for testing according to ASTM C31 as one of the methods of consolidation when molding 4x8in (102x203mm) cylinder specimens.

Tamping Rod is 18x3/8in (457x10mm) LxDia. It also meets ASTM C31/31M for consolidating 4x8in (102x203mm) concrete cylinder molds and complies with Canadian Standard CSA A23.2-3C.

Tamping rods also conform to other standards for preparing specimens and slump tests. These include AASHTO M 205 and British Standard BS 1881.

Features and Applications

Stainless steel tamping rods for testing. Hemispherical tips on both ends for thorough and even consolidation of fresh specimens. Essential tool when working with concrete cylinder molds, slump cones and unit weight measures. Consistent results in slump tests, air content assessments and strength evaluations. Straight steel rod design with rust resistant plating for long lasting durability and reliability in field conditions.

Four models available, different lengths and diameters to fit various testing needs, consolidating 4x8in and 6x12in concrete cylinder specimens. Compatible with cylinder molds, slump cones and unit weight measures. Must have for professionals doing concrete cylinder molds slump and other critical tests. Meets ASTM C138, ASTM C1611 and AASHTO T 119 standards to ensure every consolidation process meets industry requirements for accuracy and repeatability.

Specifications

Tamping rods are known for their stainless steel construction that is corrosion resistant and provides long lasting performance in concrete testing. Each rod has hemispherical tips on both ends for smooth and rounded contact points for uniform consolidation of concrete. Available in multiple models with different diameters and lengths to fit various testing protocols and specimen sizes.

Some models like HM-48 has a measuring scale engraved on the rod for precise measurement during slump tests and other procedures. All models meet major standards such as ASTM C31/31M, ASTM C143 and AASHTO M 205 to ensure every rod meets the requirements for use in a professional concrete testing environment.

Benefits and Uses

Using tamping rods in testing has many benefits. Proper consolidation of fresh specimens is critical to get accurate and reliable test results and tamping rods are designed to achieve this by eliminating air voids and ensuring uniform compaction. This results to more precise measurements of slump, air content and compressive strength which are important to evaluate the quality and performance.

The rust resistance of these rods minimizes maintenance and extends their service life making them cost effective for repeated use in the field or laboratory. With multiple models and sizes available, users can choose the right rod for their application, whether they are doing slump tests with slump cones, preparing specimens for strength testing or air testing. The versatility and reliability of tamping rods makes them an essential tool for anyone involved in testing to ensure every specimen is properly consolidated and every test result is trustworthy.
