Torvane Pocket Shear Vane Set, Metal
The Torvane Pocket Shear Vane Tester is a fast and easy way to determine shear strength of cohesionless soils. The Pocket Shear Vane is used to take on site measurements of excavations, trenches and test pits. It is also used to take readings from thin wall or split core soil samples. It’s used to evaluate soil properties, especially shear strength of cohesive soils under different conditions. It can also be used in the lab. Used by Safety and OSHA Inspectors, Back Hoe Operators, Field Testing Technicians, Consulting Engineers etc.
The Pocket Shear Vane Tester comes with 3 vanes which can be attached or removed with the included L-wrench. We also include a custom, heavy-duty, nylon bag for storage which can be attached to your belt with the belt clip and a laminated instructions card so you always have instructions to refer to when testing.
The Pocket Shear Vane can take a large number of readings including readings from different failure planes without having to prepare and trim samples. The device can be used on any reasonably flat surface that is slightly larger than the vane surface being used. The Pocket Shear Vane can be used on fully-saturated, fine-grained soils with an undrained strength independent of normal pressure, including a wide range of clays from soft to stiff consistency. Readings can be taken from 0 to 1.0 TSF (1 Kg/cm2). The dial on the unit reads in 0.05 TSF (0.05 Kg/cm2) increments.
The pocket shear vane tester is a portable and handy tool to determine shear strength of cohesive soils. It’s a fast and easy way to take on site measurements of excavations, trenches and test pits. By pressing the vane into the soil and rotating it slowly until the soil matrix fails, the pocket shear vane tester measures the shear strength of the soil. The indicator needle retains the maximum reading of the shear strength so you get accurate and reliable results. It’s a must have for professionals who need to assess soil stability fast.
