Soil Testing Load Frame: Pro Loader for Strength Test
Gilson’s Pro Loader multi-use load frame has many component options so you can design a system to meet your application needs. The frame has a robust gear box as a critical component to ensure smooth and reliable operation during testing. This frame can do all load tests in a lab with just a change of component sets. 3/4hp DC motor and controller to control strain rates to ±1% of set point. 14-gauge painted steel cabinet built for harsh lab environments, and the frame and components are built to last and be reliable, one of the toughest machines out there for soil testing. Cross-head heights are changed quickly with adjusting nuts on coarse-threaded vertical rods which are plated for corrosion resistance. A flexible boot protects the precision loading screw from dust and dirt. For concrete testing labs requiring exceptional performance, consider a rigid frame compression and flexural machine for efficient, precise results.
The load frame is made up of several components: transducers, controllers and modules that can be paired for best performance. Load frame has 10,000lbf (44.5kN) capacity and is designed for multiple applications in efficient, cost-conscious soil testing labs. It can be used for CBR, unconfined compression and triaxial testing on soil or soil-cement samples, including soils used in pavements where soil properties are critical for pavement design.
Pro Loader Load Frame strain rate is 0.001in—0.1in (0.0254—2.54mm) per minute. High-speed platen advance quickly positions the platen for testing. Direct measurements of stress, deformation and flow are possible with sensors mounted on the sample, and stress applied to the soil specimen is carefully measured and controlled. Soil properties are determined by the test type and conditions.
Loading rates are selected from the pushbutton control panel with digital display. Travel limit switch with indicating lights protects the unit from damage if platen travels outside of 3in (76mm) range. 6-3/4in (171.5mm) diameter lower platen included. Cross head height is changed quickly and accurately with self-centering adjusting nuts. Vertical rods are 1.25in (31.8mm) diameter.Component sets are sold separately. Standard component sets include a load ring and dial indicator, digital component sets include a load cell and linear displacement transducer. Load frame has multiple data acquisition channels to monitor different parameters and these channels are built into the load frame. Digital component sets can be used with user supplied computers for data management and to transfer data in ASCII file format. Data can be recorded, measured and calculated with the system software and results are recorded for each test. Software is compatible but video support may depend on the browser. Load Frame Component sets and individual accessories are listed separately.

Load frame can do consolidation and permeability tests and load direction can be adjusted for different test requirements. Fluid flow during permeability tests can be controlled as needed. Or system can be set up for automated or manual operation and user can pause or resume flow and pressure as needed during testing.
Unit is 115V/60Hz powered.
Load Frames
Load frames are the foundation of soil testing labs, providing the controlled environment to apply load and pressure to soil samples. These rugged frames can do triaxial, unconfined compression and CBR tests. At the heart of every load frame is a load cell which measures load with precision better than 0.1% of the load cell’s range. Modern load frames are designed to operate at high speeds, some models up to 20Hz for 150kN and 250kN frames and 5Hz for 1500kN frames and can be used for a wide range of soil testing applications. Load frames are for determining critical mechanical properties of soils such as compressive strength, bearing ratio and hydraulic conductivity. By providing support and control load frames ensure soil strength and performance is measured to industry standards.
Pro Loader Load Frame Overview
The Pro Loader Load Frame is a versatile and precise machine for a wide range of soil testing applications. It has a stepper motor and worm gear drive system for smooth and reliable operation and fine control of test parameters. It has a high precision displacement transducer for accurate measurement of axial deformation and a load cell to measure axial load during the test. The Pro Loader Load Frame can do multiple test types: triaxial, unconfined compression, CBR and soil cement tests making it an essential tool for geotechnical engineers and lab professionals. The control system allows for precise control of confining pressures, back pressure and pore pressure so each test is done under optimal conditions. Meets international standards such as ASTM and AASHTO. The Pro Loader Load Frame has the accuracy, reliability and flexibility for modern soil testing labs.
Load Frames
Load frames come in different models for different soil testing applications. Common types are triaxial, unconfined compression, CBR and Marshall testing. Some load frames are designed for high pressure testing while others are for low pressure or special test methods. The choice of load frame depends on the test method, soil type and level of test control required. Many load frames can be customized with accessories such as load rings, test molds and platens to fit different testing needs. For example a triaxial testing load frame may have a triaxial cell, back pressure controller and pore pressure transducers to do advanced soil strength tests. Each type of load frame is designed to provide control over test conditions so results are accurate, repeatable and to industry standards.
Triaxial Testing with Pro Loader
The Pro Loader Load Frame is designed to do triaxial testing, a critical test method to evaluate mechanical properties of soils under controlled conditions. During triaxial testing the load frame applies confining pressures, back pressure and axial load to a soil sample while measuring pore pressure and axial deformation. The Pro Loader has a triaxial cell, back pressure controller and pore pressure transducers making it ideal for doing full range of triaxial tests. The advanced control system and software allows users to adjust and monitor test conditions in real time so results are reliable and accurate. The Pro Loader Load Frame can do consolidated drained, consolidated undrained and unconsolidated undrained triaxial tests and is versatile for different soil types and engineering applications. With its user friendly interface and robust design the Pro Loader can do complex soil tests with confidence and precision.
