Soil Density Tester – Compact Volumeter for Accurate Field Testing
The Soil Density Volumeter is a pocket device to measure in-situ density of undisturbed soil. It uses a calibrated cylinder to make quick density measurement of cohesive soils. With the stem of the piston fully retracted, the 30cm3 capacity cylinder with cutting edge is pushed into the soil; the device’s tip is designed for easy penetration into cohesive soils. After squaring off the bottom of the core, soil volume in the Volumeter is read to 0.05cm3 via a scale on the piston stem and a fine-reading vernier scale on the top face of the cylinder, for precise reading for density calculation. The sample is then screwed in the piston; the extracted core is the soil sample for further analysis. Density is easy to calculate. This is all stainless steel and 3.75in (95mm) long by 2in (51mm) maximum diameter. The Soil Density Volumeter is a must have for geotechnical investigation and part of the range of testing equipment for soil density testing. For measuring soil strength in the field, see the Pocket Penetrometer.

The Soil Density Volumeter is a device to measure in-situ density of undisturbed soil, used to measure in-situ density of undisturbed soils. This pocket size instrument is perfect for engineers, geologists and soil scientists who need to quickly and accurately test soil density in the field. Soils can be tested fast and accurately with this. The Volumeter has a calibrated cylinder to make quick density measurement of cohesive soils and is used to measure density directly at the site. Using this is easy. With the stem of the piston fully retracted, the 30cm3 capacity cylinder with cutting edge is pushed into the soil. Once the bottom of the core is squared off, the volume of soil in the Volumeter can be read to 0.05cm3 via the scale on the piston stem and the fine-reading vernier scale on the top face of the cylinder, for precise reading for density calculation.
To extract the sample for weighing, just screw in the piston. The extracted core is the soil sample for further laboratory or field test analysis. Computing the density is easy with this. The Volumeter is made of stainless steel, durable and corrosion resistant. 3.75in (95mm) long and 2in (51mm) maximum diameter. The Volumeter is for quick test in the field.
One of the key feature of the Volumeter is the stem which has volume graduations from 0 to 30cm3. This allows for precise and accurate measurement of density. Also the device is made of high quality stainless steel for longevity and reliability in harsh field condition.
The Volumeter is easy to use and give result in minutes. Whether you are testing soil for construction projects, environmental assessment or agricultural research, this is a must have in your tool kit. With its compact size and durable construction, the Volumeter is the ultimate solution for soil density testing on the go.
What is Soil Testing
Soil testing is the first step to the success of any construction project as it provides critical information about the properties and behavior of soil under different conditions. Accurate testing allows engineers and construction team to determine essential parameters such as maximum dry density and optimum moisture content which is vital for proper soil compaction. By using reliable methods like sand cone method and nuclear gauge, professionals can check if the soil at the site meet the required standard for environmental pressure.Soil testing involves testing the soil’s bearing capacity, moisture content and characteristics. These tests will determine if the soil can be compacted to the required to avoid future problems, settlement or structural failure. Methods like sand cone and nuclear gauge will give you accurate in-place dry density so the soil is compacted to specification. By testing the soil properties, construction team can make informed decision that lead to safer and more durable structure and minimize costly problem later on.
Compaction
Compaction is a critical process in preparing the ground for construction as it increase the strength of the soil by reducing air voids. Properly compacted soil provide a stable base for structure, prevent settlement, shifting and erosion over time. In construction project, achieving the right level is important to ensure the ground can support the intended load and environmental factors like water infiltration and wind.
There are several method of compaction, rolling, vibrating and impacting, each suitable for different soil type and project requirement. The main goal is to achieve compacted soil that meet the specified density and strength to provide a reliable base for building, road and other structure. Well compacted soil is less prone to erosion as its increased density make it more resistant to water and wind. By controlling the process and verifying the result through compaction tests, construction team can ensure the long term stability and safety of their project.
