The Russian Peat Borer (6 cm x 50 cm) is a chambered, side-filling sampler designed for precise core sampling. It allows you to drive the borer to a specific sediment depth in a closed, empty position. Once at the desired depth, turning the cross handle clockwise activates the sampling mechanism. The pivoting cutting plate supports the cutting action as the borer rotates 180 degrees, slicing a semi-cylindrical sample. The sharpened edge cuts cleanly until the opposite side of the plate is reached. This design ensures the sample is retrieved without contamination from overlying sediments. To remove the sample, rotate the borer counterclockwise, allowing it to rest on the cutting plate, ready for sectioning.
