Rice Shaker for Specific Gravity and Asphalt Rice Test, Texas DOT
Gilson Rice Shaker delivers consistent, automated agitation for vacuum pycnometers during asphalt Rice tests, freeing lab technicians to focus on other tasks. It’s also an excellent deairing agitator for specific gravity tests of fine aggregates (ASTM C128) and soils (ASTM D854), as well as for sample preconditioning in compliance with ASTM D4867 and AASHTO T 283.
The shaker features a built-in timer with ±1 second accuracy, capable of measuring up to 99 minutes and 59 seconds. Its front-mounted control panel includes a vibration speed controller and a three-position switch for manual or timed operation. Variable speed settings ensure precise agitation, preventing asphalt stripping. The sturdy painted steel case with nonslip rubber feet eliminates the need for mounting.
Gilson’s exclusive EZ-Clamp System secures pycnometers or flasks quickly and easily. Simply press the buttons, slide the container into place, and lock it with a quick twist. For older models, the EZ-Clamp Upgrade Kit is available, and an Alternate Clamping System can be purchased separately.
The Rice Shaker comes equipped with fitted top and bottom plates designed for Aluminum Pycnometers. Additional Adapter Sets are available for use with other pycnometers, as well as Filter, Volumetric, or Le Chatelier Flasks.
For precise vacuum measurement during testing, a Digital Residual Pressure Manometer can be purchased separately, with an NIST-certified version also available. This model is specifically modified to meet Texas DOT requirements, including TXDOT TEX-227-F.
