The Rice Shaker provides consistent, automatic agitation for vacuum pycnometers, making the asphalt Rice test more efficient and freeing up lab technicians for other tasks. It also serves as a reliable deairing agitator for specific gravity tests of fine aggregates (ASTM C128) and soils (ASTM D854), as well as preconditioning samples for ASTM D4867 and AASHTO T 283.

Built for precision, the Rice Shaker features a 0–99 minute digital timer with ±0.25 second accuracy. The front-mounted control panel includes a vibration speed controller and a switch for manual or timed operation, ensuring ease of use. Its variable speed settings control agitation to prevent asphalt stripping. The durable painted steel housing with nonslip rubber feet eliminates the need for mounting.

The innovative EZ-Clamp System secures pycnometers and flasks with a simple push, slide, and twist, offering fast and secure operation. Older models of Gilson Rice Shakers can also be upgraded to the EZ-Clamp System with the available retrofit kit. Alternate clamping systems are sold separately. The shaker includes fitted top and bottom plates for aluminum pycnometers, with optional adapter sets available for other pycnometers and flask types, including Filter, Volumetric, and Le Chatelier flasks.
