The RETSCH Planetary Ball Mill PM 100 is a high-performance grinding machine designed to quickly and efficiently grind various materials to a fine particle size of 1µm or less. Its versatility makes it suitable for both wet and dry grinding, mixing, emulsifying, and homogenizing applications.
The grinding process of the Planetary Ball Mill is achieved by the rotation of the grinding bowls on their own axis, which are mounted on a counter-rotating platform known as the sun wheel. As the grinding bowls rotate, the grinding balls inside them roll halfway around the bowl and then impact the opposite side at high speed. This unique mechanism ensures that very fine and narrow size ranges can be achieved in a much shorter time compared to conventional ball mills.
With a maximum feed size of 10mm and a sample volume of up to 300ml with a single 500ml grinding jar, this ball mill offers ample capacity for various samples. The 1-Station bench-top model of the Retsch Planetary Ball Mill accepts jars ranging from 12ml to 500ml in volume, allowing for versatile usage. For larger sample capacities, two stacked grinding jars of up to 50ml volume can be accommodated with the use of additional adapters.
The Retsch Planetary Ball Mill features an intuitive one-button rotary selector that navigates through the user-friendly multi-language menus. Energy input and speeds ranging from 100 to 650rpm are electronically controlled for precise and reproducible results. The energy input is directly measured and displayed in kilojoules, enabling accurate control of the grinding process. Ten combinations of grinding parameters can be stored in the memory for easy retrieval, ensuring consistent performance.
To ensure smooth operation and stability, the ball mill is equipped with an imbalance sensor and force-compensating mounting feet. A sliding counterbalance weight on an inclined ramp compensates for the mass and center of gravity of the grinding jar. Additionally, a chamber ventilation fan enables safe operation during solvent-based wet grinding operations.
