One of the key features of the Ultra Centrifugal Mill ZM 300 is the integrated temperature control. This ensures reproducibility even during long grinding times or when grinding large sample volumes. By monitoring the cassette temperature the mill allows fine adjustments to be made to improve reproducibility.
The ZM 300 has a wide range of rotors, ring sieves and cassettes so it is very versatile in sample preparation. The patented cassette system allows maximum sample recovery and easy cleaning, an optional cassette is available for higher sample volumes. The ring sieves have an aperture size range of 0.08 to 10 mm so the ZM 300 provides a defined final fineness for different applications.
The mill has different collecting vessels for different sample volumes from 250 ml to 4.5 l. The ZM 300 can be equipped with an automated vibratory feeder and different cyclone systems to optimize the grinding process.

The speed range from 6,000 to 23,000 rpm allows to adapt the grinding process to the sample by keeping the grinding time as short as possible and the temperature increase as low as possible. Too much heat can harm the grinding results, for example if moisture or volatile components escape.
The ZM 300 has an integrated temperature sensor which measures the temperature of the cassette lid near the ring sieve. The measured temperature is displayed on the mill’s display so the user can adjust the grinding process and improve reproducibility. Additionally the ZM 300 ensures a constant particle size distribution which is the key to reproducibility.

The ZM 300 reaches 23,000 rpm (rotor peripheral speed 118 m/s) and produces 15 to 20 % finer particles depending on the material. The ZM 300 is perfect for cryogenic grinding and produces finer particles.
The higher speed has the biggest impact on polymer samples which are cryogenically ground or fibrous materials like hay. Compared to models with 18,000 min-1 the throughput can be increased by 10 to 15%.

APPLICATION EXAMPLES
Grind sizes of plastic materials (POM or PP) after grinding with different sieves and speeds. The 23,000 min-1 speed results in a higher fineness for all sieves than 18,000 min-1. For example 19% finer when grinding POM with 0.12 mm sieve at 23,000 min-1.
The maximum sample throughput, e.g. when grinding chicken feed with 0.5 mm ring sieve, can be increased by 16% when grinding at 23,000 min-1 instead of 18,000 min-1. The ZM 300 is perfect for sample preparation in all applications and gives consistent and reproducible results.
