Ranger Pocket Radiation Survey Meter
Maximum Performance, Lightweight Design
The Ranger is a high-performance, handheld digital radiation survey meter designed for versatility and reliability. It combines the ruggedness needed for industrial and field environments with the precision features required for laboratory work. Lightweight and compact, the Ranger offers a robust solution for surveying contamination, performing wipe tests, and detecting radiation leaks.
This versatile device excels at detecting low levels of alpha, beta, gamma, and x-ray radiation. Its high sensitivity and built-in efficiencies for common isotopes allow for precise activity calculations in Becquerels (Bq) and Disintegrations Per Minute (DPM). The user-friendly interface features a backlit digital display, a red count light that flashes with each detected count, and an audible beeper, providing instant feedback.
Advanced features include user-selectable alert levels, an adjustable timer, and internal memory for data logging. With the free Observer USB Software, you can easily download collected data to a PC for analysis and reporting, set computer-based alarms, and configure the device.
Key Features at a Glance:
- Multi-Detection Capability: Excellent sensitivity to alpha, beta, gamma, and x-ray radiation.
- User-Friendly Interface: Backlit graphic LCD, red flashing count light, and audible alerts.
- Data Logging & Connectivity: Internal memory and USB port for use with Observer USB software for data download and real-time monitoring.
- Durable & Portable: Housed in a compact, ruggedized case with an included protective boot for extra durability.
- Long Battery Life: Operates for approximately 800 hours at background levels on two standard AA alkaline batteries.
- Customizable Alerts: Set alarm thresholds for mR/hr, CPM, µSv/hr, or CPS.
- Anti-Saturation: The meter holds at full scale in fields up to 100 times the maximum reading, preventing overload.
Technical Specifications
Detector: Internal Halogen-quenched, uncompensated Geiger-Mueller (GM) tube. Features a thin mica window with a 1.4-2.0 mg/cm² areal density and an effective diameter of 45 mm (1.77 in.).
Energy Sensitivity:
- 3340 CPM/mR/hr referenced to Cesium-137 (Cs-137).
- Detects Alpha particles down to 2 MeV.
- Detects Beta particles down to 0.16 MeV (typical efficiency at 1 MeV is approx. 25%).
- Detects Gamma rays down to 10 KeV through the end window.
- Smallest detectable level for Iodine-125 (I-125) is 0.02 µCi at contact.
Operating Range:
- mR/hr: 0.001 to 100
- µSv/hr: 0.01 to 1000
- CPM: 0 to 350,000
- CPS: 0 to 5,000
- Total/Timer: 1 to 9,999,000 counts
Built-In Efficiencies: Pre-programmed for common isotopes including S-35, Sr/Y-90, Cs-137, P-32, C-14, I-131, Co-60, and general Alpha, allowing for direct activity readings.
Accuracy: Typically ±15% from the factory (referenced to Cs-137). Can be improved to ±10% with NIST source calibration.
Physical Dimensions:
- Size: 140 x 68 x 33 mm (5.5 x 2.7 x 1.3 in.)
- Weight: 340 g (12 oz) including batteries and boot.
