Pocket Penetrometer for Soil
- The new pocket penetrometer, weighing less than 5 ounces, minimizes human error when classifying cohesive soils.
- It can be paired with the torsional vane shear tester (TVST) for quick estimation of soil's internal friction.
- OSHA now requires the use of pocket penetrometers on most excavation projects, as outlined in the manual "Construction Standards for Excavation."
- This spring-operated device measures compressive strength by pushing a 0.25" (6.4mm) diameter piston into the soil up to a calibration groove 0.25" from the tip.
Simple to use, reliable results
To use, slide the indicating ring to the top of the device, then push the piston into the soil until the calibration mark aligns with the surface. The easy-to-read scale measures strength from 0 to 4.5 tons per square foot, and readings remain visible until reset manually.
Durable and lightweight design
Made from anodized aluminum, the penetrometer measures 6-1/4" in length with a 7/8" diameter. Cleaning is easy—simply loosen the stainless steel pin with an Allen wrench.
Comes with:
- Penetrometer
- Allen Wrench
- Carrying Belt Pouch
