Lottman Breaking Head, 6in
The Lottman Breaking Head, designed for 6in (152mm) specimens, is a critical component for asphalt testing. Also known as an Indirect Tensile (IDT) Loading Fixture, it is used in conjunction with standard Marshall load frames to measure the tensile strength and moisture sensitivity of asphalt mixes. This test is essential for evaluating a mix's resistance to stripping and predicting its long-term durability, particularly its susceptibility to moisture-induced damage.
Each fixture is precision-engineered, consisting of a stable base with two rigid, upright guide rods and a corresponding top piece with perfectly aligned guide sleeves. This design ensures accurate and consistent vertical loading during the test. The fixture includes upper and lower stainless steel loading strips, which feature precisely machined concave contact surfaces to apply a compressive load across the vertical diameter of the asphalt specimen. This compressive load induces a uniform tensile stress along the horizontal diameter, allowing for the determination of the indirect tensile strength.
This 6in breaking head is also available in a 4in (102mm) version to accommodate different specimen sizes.
Key Features:
- Designed for 6in (152mm) diameter asphalt specimens.
- Determines Indirect Tensile (IDT) or Lottman values.
