Applications and Uses of Derail with Sign
The SaberTooth Portable Derail with Sign is used for:
-
Maintenance and safety: to block a section of track to prevent trains from passing through
-
Railroad construction: to provide temporary derailing protection during construction projects
-
Emergency response: to safely and effectively respond to threats at a distance
-
Freight car and locomotive maintenance: to ensure safe and efficient operations
-
Yard safety: to have a complete safety arsenal for railroads and maintenance personnel.
Derails are emergency car stopping devices to stop unauthorized movement of a locomotive or railcar.
The derail lifts the flange of the car wheel and drops it clear of the rail so the car can’t move forward.
OSHA, FRA, and DOT regulations require derail protection for all active rail siding.
Derails prevent these railroad accidents:
-
Railcars hitting each other.
-
Unauthorized or premature removal of cars by locomotive.
-
Rollaway car escaping out onto mainline.
Portable Derails
For temporary derailing capability use these Portable Derails on exposed track and ties. All portable derails have tool-free installation, are lightweight and have a patented safety hook to keep derail from sliding down. Derail blue flag and holder (manually-operated) are included. The one-way portable derails are for freight cars and all size locomotives (90–141 lbs, wooden, spacing: 18–24"). The two-way portable derails are for freight cars and 4-axle locomotives only. Do not use two-way with 6-axle locomotives (rails 100–136 lbs wooden ties, tie spacing 19–24").
