J Ring Test Set: Apparatus For Self-Consolidating Concrete

This SCC J-Ring test set is used to determine the passing ability of self compacting concrete and self-consolidating concrete. It can be used in the lab to test different mixes for passing ability or in the field as a quality control test. It is common to also do a slump flow test with the J-ring test. This test is similar to the J-ring except the J-ring is not used. The difference between the two tests will give you an idea of the passing ability.

Kit includes everything needed to perform the J-Ring and slump flow tests: Slump Cone, heavy duty steel J-Ring, Steel Base Plate, Acrylic Strike Off Bar

  • Set features: heavy duty steel J-Ring for durability, rigid base plate, smooth rebar rods, and engraved positioning rings

  • Meets ASTM standards, including ASTM C1621 and ASTM C1621 and C1621M

  • Durable

  • Smooth rebar rods

  • Engraved positioning rings on steel base plate

This SCC J-Ring test set meets ASTM requirements and is suitable for both laboratory and field testing. When purchasing online, you can add the test set to your cart and select the desired quantity.

What is J-Ring Test?

The J-Ring Test is a standard test to determine passing ability of self-consolidating concrete (SCC). This is important in the construction industry as it ensures it can flow under its own weight and fill complex forms without vibration. The J-Ring Test is usually done to evaluate the flowability and passing ability of SCC. By comparing the two tests, you will get a complete picture of the concrete’s performance. The J-Ring Test is standardized by ASTM C1611 and C1621 so it’s a proven and widely used method in the industry.

Also, the J-Ring Test helps assess aggregate segregation and distribution in SCC mixtures, to see how aggregates affect flowability and passing.

Components and Accessories

The J-Ring Test Set includes:

  • J-Ring Assembly: A stainless steel crown with 16 bars, 18mm diameter, to simulate congested rebar.

  • Modified Slump Cone: A steel cone to measure the flow to ensure consistency of the test

  • HDPE Strike-Off Bar: A high-density polyethylene bar to strike off for a smooth surface.

  • Plastic Base Plate: A durable plastic plate with engraved circles to provide a stable and level surface for the quality control test.

  • Straightedge: A steel, beveled straightedge used to measure and verify the flowability and spread of samples during the test.

  • Smooth rods: Smooth rods that are part of the assembly to minimize the resistance of the flow.

  • Rebar Rods: Optional rebar rods to simulate more complex rebar scenario.

Results Evaluation

Evaluating the results from the J-Ring Test Set is the key to determine the passing of SCC mixtures. After the J-Ring test, measure the flow diameter with and without J-Ring. The test set includes slump cone, smooth rods and plate to ensure accurate and repeatable results.

The main focus is to measure the difference in flow caused by the J-Ring, which simulates the effect of reinforcing steel in concrete forms. By comparing the flow diameters, you can assess the ability of self consolidating concrete to pass through congested areas without segregation or blockage. This difference is the direct indicator of the passing of SCC and is critical for both lab and field QC testing.

All results should be compared to the guidelines set by ASTM C1621 and C1621M standards, which define the acceptable limits for the passing of SCC mixtures. This will ensure it meets the required performance criteria for specific application. Also the J-Ring test set allows to evaluate and compare different mixtures, so it’s a valuable tool for mix design optimization and quality control in lab and field.

Applications and Benefits

The J-Ring Test Set is used in the construction industry for both lab and field QC testing of SCC. Its main application is to measure SCC to flow and pass through reinforcement, which is essential for producing durable and high quality structures. By using this tool, construction professionals can evaluate the flow and passing of SCC mixtures, so it will perform as required in complex forms and congested rebar scenarios. The test set meets ASTM C1621 and C1621M standards, so you can compare the performance of different mixtures and choose the best for your project. The J-Ring test set is also durable, easy to use and gives consistent results, so it’s a practical choice for lab and field use.

Main benefits of the J-Ring Test Set: quality control, faster testing, cost savings by identifying the right mix early in the process. Robust and standards compliant, it’s a must have for any program to produce safe, reliable and long lasting structures.
