Gilson Mechanical Soil Compactor

Gilson Mechanical Soil Compactor brings together the reliability of traditional mechanical compactors with advanced safety and convenience features, making soil testing more efficient and user-friendly. It supports a wide range of tests with included 4in and 6in (102mm and 152mm) soil density molds, as well as CBR and LBR molds.

The digital controller simplifies operations with pre-programmed compaction and bearing ratio test procedures for ASTM, AASHTO, and FM-5-515 standards. The intuitive menu allows easy selection of test methods, while the four-line LCD display shows real-time progress, including lift and blow counts. The turntable rotation is also automated, ensuring uniform compaction for each lift. For more specialized needs, users can customize parameters such as rotation, lifts, and blow counts.

At the end of each compaction cycle, the hammer is placed on the safety arm to allow for adding or leveling soil for the next lift or volume determination. The hammer mechanism ensures consistent drop heights of 12in or 18in (305mm or 457mm) and can be adjusted in seconds. The drop height is factory-calibrated, but users can make minor adjustments if needed.

The hammer's weight and face type are also customizable. A 4.5lb (2kg) surcharge weight can be added to the standard 5.5lb (2.5kg) hammer body to increase the total weight to 10lb (4.5kg). The included 2in (51mm) round hammer face can be swapped with a 3.14in² (2025.8mm²) sector face for added flexibility.

The controller includes a pause feature, allowing users to safely add material mid-cycle without restarting the test. Safety features include a door interlock switch that stops operation if the door is opened and an emergency stop (E-Stop) button for immediate shutdown. The durable steel construction with a powder-coated finish and clear polycarbonate windows provides lasting performance and visibility during operation.

The Compactor comes with a programmable digital controller, compaction molds, hammer body, round and sector hammer faces, and a surcharge weight. It operates on either 115V, 60Hz or 230V, 50Hz power supply with a 1/3hp motor for reliable performance. Optional accessories like the Base Extension and Lower Doors further enhance functionality.
