Technical Details
The Dynamic Cone Penetrometer consists of a drive rod, a cone penetrometer point and a vertical scale. The drive rod is made of stainless steel and is 30-40 inches (762-1016 mm) long allowing for a test depth of up to 36 inches (914 mm). The cone point is a hardened, reusable cone 0.790in (20.1mm) in diameter and 60° tapered to minimize shaft resistance and to measure penetration depth accurately. The embedded cone is used to measure soil resistance and get accurate penetration test results and correlate with standard soil testing methods. The vertical scale is used to measure the penetration resistance of the soil which is correlated to the CBR value. The device also has a free fall mechanism to allow the cone to penetrate the soil with a consistent energy input.
The Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) measures the shear strength of soil with CBR values of 0.5 to 100.
