Draindown Basket, #8 Mesh
The Draindown Basket is specifically designed for conducting draindown tests on uncompacted bituminous mixtures, such as Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA) or open-graded porous asphalt. These tests determine the amount of asphalt binder that separates from the mixture when exposed to elevated temperatures during production, transport, and placement. This critical test ensures the stability and quality of asphalt mixtures by preventing excessive binder separation, which can lead to performance issues.
During the test, a sample is placed inside the Draindown Basket, which is positioned on a pre-weighed paper plate in a forced-air oven for one hour. Any asphalt binder that separates and deposits onto the plate outside the basket is measured as the draindown amount. This simple yet effective setup helps ensure compliance with production standards. Please note, paper plates are not included and should be sourced locally.
